hi, I upgraded to a blackberry a couple of days ago -my contract includes 500MB monthly internet, 1GB bt openzone and blackberry email services.
i've set up my hotmail address, so that when i get an email, it "pings" up on my phone and i can check it.
my questions are:
on my laptop, i have avast - do you need anything similar on a blackberry?
if by having my emails pinging on my phone, am i constantly using internet access and using my 500MB all the time? (i thought i only used the 500mb if i acutally browsed the web, or clicked on open the email which has pinged up). i was under the impression that broadly speaking i could look at around 5000 internet pages/emails per month - i don't download videos/music - just look at MSE, occasionally facebook and check emails.
I have BT wireless broadband at home, would i be better clicking onto that when in the house?
sometimes i wish i'd stayed with my old basic nokia!!

Hello,
Yes your Blackberry is connected to the internet 24/7/365. However 500mb is plenty.
I've had a Blackberry for the last 4 years and have never gone over my allowance. That includes browsing the internet, downloading apps, backing up via Blackberry Protect etc.
I have a Torch 9800 on O2 and last month I used 100.37 MB and I have a 750 MB with my tariff. You can set up the wireless so it automatically connects to your home network.
I haven't any Anti Virus software on my Blackberry. Never had any problem with viruses.
