I got this phone ordered yesterday says its sim free it was posted on mse grabbit. I am not remotely interested in mobiles so hence why I dont know much about them, I make odd call thats all I am interested in

http://www.expansys.com/acer-liquid-metal-brown-209791/

My partner uses a old (3 years old) orange payg phone but wants a better phone for FB/internet (a little). Am I right in thinking you can use any sim in a sim free phone?

Can they use there old orange sim/number etc?

We all have mobiles that use orange in the house so not sure it worth going to someone else

Also I just realised it says handset only do I need a charger for it?

Thanks

It will come with a charger, however it is expensive for the 2 yr old model, perhaps a HTC wildfire or Orange san fransisco would be a more cost effective choice.

Thanks the htc wildfire is above our price range this seemed to fit the bill and its cheaper than many other places. I was thinking of a contract but dont really want to pay £25 for 24 months and they wont be using phone huge lot texting/phone/face book/pictures taken

Would definitely recommend if you can get a good O2 signal and you are on PAYG the whole family switch to Giffgaff. The basic package offers free Giffgaff to giffgaff calls (top up by a £10 every 3 months) & they do monthly goody bags from £5 to £25 with unlimited internet from £10 bags. Basic call charges are 10p voice/6p text. still far cheaper than Orange.

Check the referrers board for a link & you get £5 when you sign up & top up £10.

The handset I looked at was priced at £138 the Wildfire cost me £100 and is the later android edition 2.2 vs the acer using 1.6.

This phone from Expansys is the Acer Liquid Metal. It was released November 2010 so 10 months old not 2 years and runs 2.2 Froyo not 1.6.

That is what I searched for 1st, still if what you write is correct , why is it £38 more than say a wildfire, ps it is also not in stock for 4 days.

It was in stock earlier and has now sold out. It's probably £38 more than a Wildfire as it seems to be a higher spec phone :

Ah thanks for that, the 1st link looked like an older early release, the acer spec now does not look far from the SE Xperia Ray which I was considering next and a hell of a price difference :j

So its not a bad phone for price then :) I have a giff gaff sim card coming from last week, I forgot about that and got 50p cashback.

Looks like I got a good deal along with sim card I didnt realise you get all those minutes and unlimited data for £10 a month

Phone is probably good, lacks some features like flash for the camera but still a good handset, not so sure about giffgaff and goodybags, depends on your usage pattern, o2 sim only suits me better than any other tariff for my £20 per month.

    Main disadvantages

    • Camera lacks flash or lens cover, has outdated features
    • No smart dialing, no voice dialing, no video calling
    • No web Flash support
    • Acer UI 3.0 offers only minor changes to the original interface
    • Somewhat limited 3rd party software availability
    • No DivX or XviD video support or a third-party application to play that
    • Poor MP4 playback performance - any videos over QVGA res are barely watchable
    • No proper file manager out of the box
    • No TV-out port
    • No FM radio
