Actually every post by this member recommends that particular comment, and they are the only posts that this member made. And, in fact, is still making those posts.

I'm sorry if this is in wrong place but Ive forgotten how to post a new thread.
A washine machine repair man fixed my machine, Long story but basically he changed the brushes,, pretended to have change what he called the tacho-moto (he didnt) , said he fitted 'extra strong' carbon brushes and charged me £90 for the privilege and gave me no receipt.

Since he left when the machine spins the soap dispenser fell out and machine made a hell of a racket.

I'm not usually in the room when machine is on but today I was and when it span the machine tried to escape from under the worktop and moved about a foot. the drum was noisy and I could see drum rocking from side to side.

This didnt happen before he changed the brushes. What is wrong with it?? I'm really worried. When he changed the brushes he removed motor and belt.

I've called him but I suspect from his wife's reaction he is going to say its nothing to do with him - even though it happened directly after he 'changed' brushes.

Any advice please urgently required? I want to be armed with info before he calls in morning.

    Thank you
  • It sounds as if the machine is unbalanced. Most have jiggly legs that adjust themselves if you tip the machine. :)

If the front feet aren't both touching the floor, then honeythewitch is most likely correct, which just needs foot screwing down until it touches floor otherwise it sounds like there's a problem with the suspension or counterbalance weight.

Thank you. Its wedged really tight under a work surface so it cant move (normally), but since man fixed it, drum moves side to side and up and down. Will move the machine see ifthat helps...thanks :)

How does the counterweight balance get damaged? It was fine before he fixed it.

He tipped machine on its side with nothing to stop drum moving inside.

There are weights inside a washing machine to balance everything. Have a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7P2y__hD5M&feature=player_detailpage - it shows roughly where the weights are and is quite useful generally to find out how the blessed things work!

I'm wondering if the repairer has detached/damaged a spring that holds one of the weights? Or as he detached the belt, if he's replaced it properly? I'd recommend that you get him back out and watch him like a hawk when he gets back into it. For what it's worth I've never heard of a "tacho moto" on a washing machine (although I'm not a washing machine engineer :)) However, I'd certainly ask him to show me where it is :D
  • Yep, the tacho moto was a figment of his imagination. He fixed brushes (£8 if I bought myself) and charged me a whopping £90 :(

    Thank you for your advice.

OP complain to lidl and get money back! meanwhile, run a couple of empty washes! or pop some bicarbonate of soda in the drawer and run that - or white vinegar.
