what should I do with AOL?

my contract with AOL is coming to an end next month (I pay £7.99 for BB and free calls 24/7 - pay line rental to BT). I phoned yesterday to find out what is on offer. I spoke to a very nice Irish lady who was very helpful. She offered me what I think is a fantastic package which I accepted straight away ( BB up to 24Mb, free calls 24/7 including 0845 and 0870. free voice mail, free router all for £14.09 and that is including line rental). she said she could do that because I have been with AOL for 11 years. She even lifted the the limit on BB download from 10 GB to unlimited and gave me 3 months free rent on a 12 months contract. I was very pleased until I received the confirmation email which stated that it is 18 months contract, £24/month and with 10GB download limit which is a crap. I tried to call again but I spent 2 hours speaking to different people with Indian accent who either did not understand my problem or had no interest and ended putting the phone down on me. I could not get to the cancellation dep. again. the email says I have 7 days to cancel this crap package...what should I do?

  • I'm in a similar position with my aol coming up for renewal this month. When I renewed my contract last year I received an email with different details to what I'd been offered. I just sent an email to the Irish lady I'd spoken to when the deal was done and she said for me to ignore that email as it was a 'standard one', and she confirmed the plan that she had offered.
I've been with aol for 15 years, and hope that they will take my 'loyalty' into account when I contact them for a new package later this month (I'd happily take the deal that they offered to you)

thank you. My only problem is that I have no evidence of what she told me. She said she will send me an email with her contact details and package confirmation but she did not. I do not even know her name
  • When I did my renewal I received an email with different details to the ones agreed. I emailed the lady in aol and she told me to ignore it as it was a 'standard letter', and confirmed to me, by email the deal that had been agreed.
I can't remember how I got her name, but there will be an order number on your recent email, I would phone aol (it may take several attempts to get a uk call center), quoteing the order number and asking who it was that you dealt with.
I've been with aol since 1998 and have had no problems which makes me think that I must be very lucky going off some of the other posts.
I intend giving them a ring next week to try to get a deal for the coming 12 months.

I've found late evening is a better time to call.

Let us know how you get on. Had several calls/letters from them over last few months trying to get me to add line rental but have resisted so far as it didn't include unlimited usage and only included e+W calls. Currently on £6.99 unlimited usage and anytime 01/02/03 calls.

let us know how you get on, it does seem a good deal. If offered to me I would be tempted by it although I want to find out if I can improve my speed ( a paltry 1.05 Mbps ).

Hi , Me too. I have just been on to them For 30 minutes + on the free 0844 helpline. I had to restore pc back to factory settings, and wanted tech help for my e-mail. Indian lady was no help, old speedtough router, do I want a new one? Put me throughto C/s, nice chap. Offered me 2 deals, identical 18 month @ £14.09 as op was quoted, OR, £17.09 with 100 free any time , any network mobile calls.18 month contract. Both via e-mail confirmation from Jim ? got it in e-mail. That, sgood deal as BT are putting line up to £14+.
BUT, like you, I have always shied away from giving my line away, getting back to BT can be a pain,if what I read is correct. I also have been with them years, and have been happy.
    What to do?????
I doubt they allow 18185 or any overiders, not even 1280, which I know they don,t. but it,s very tempting:::

Hi, Yes I know , I use it also, and 1899.But if they get your line, they will block overiders. Your line is still BT like mine , isn,tt it?

Ah yes, I understand you now. Yes my line rental is with BT but all my calls are routed through AOL. I don't make that many calls via 18185, the line rental savings would more than make up for it.

The deal you've been quoted is the one I was offered in May and am currently on. I got the standard e-mail but also had an e-mail from the nice Irish lady I spoke to. All was set up OK and as it stands I am happy. Been with AOL since 2003.:T
