Could someone please help me. We have just changed to sky broadband and had set up my emails via outlook with the details given to me by sky (never done this type of thing before). I inserted the pop3 details and smtp, and enered my password. Everything has been fine.
But we now have a laptop which uses outlook express, I thought you only had to put the same details in the set up and it would work.
I can now receive new emails in the laptop outlook express but cant view any old ones
I can view old emails on desk top computer but cant receive new ones. What have I done wrong????
Simple english would be appreciated as I dont understand the computer jargon that they speak at call centres.
Thanks

Not sure that I fully understand your problem. E-mail clients will check for new e-mails in your inbox and if present download them to your computer. If you are receiving new ones OK, it is working as it will only download e-mails in your inbox. If you can't download new e-mails on your desktop, you have not set-up the POP3 server details correctly. Do you get any error reports? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
you can only view the e-mails on the machine you downloaded them onto unless you export them on to the other one. So new messages you can see because they are on the laptop, the old ones on the desk top pc you can only view because this is where they are stored.
When you say you cant receive new e-mails on the desk top, is it because it gives an error, or is it because there are no new messages as you may have already downloaded them via th elaptop?
I have nothing better to do!!!!

Thanks for your reply Startrekker
I think its because i have already read them on my laptop and when i try to receive on desktop the email isnt there when i try to receive it into my inbox.
Does it mean hat any emails i read on my laptop stay on there and any i read on my desktop pc will only be able read on there?0 -

Yes as when you download them onto one PC they are taken off the server so if you use a different PC they wont be there to re-download, you could always forward them to yourself and then check for mail on the PC that doesnt have the emails.0 -
You can set the account on one machine NOT to delete from server to ensure at least one copy of everything gets onto one of the 2 computers.0

That sounds like what i might need to do, would you know what i would need to change to do this?
It rings a bell but cant seem to remember where to go - Just learning to find my way around at the moment. Think my 6 year old has more of an idea that me!!0 -
I believe you can set Outlook Express on both computers to delete messages on server after 1 week?
Although, to be frank, I wouldn't be using Outlook Express. It's the most targeted software for viruses.0 -

I would like to know that aswell I mean to leave the email left on the server to download again, only thing is though is wouldnt the same emails keep downloading, I mean you would have to set a paremeter of "Download all mail from now on only" but also "only let email download twice" or you would get the same email over and over again, I have Gmail and can get the email to come through on OE and a copy left on the server but I wont re-download again as thats to much to ask of a program.0
