Reward for finding a credit/debit card??

I have to say that some banks really dont want to help their customers at all.

When I worked for Tesco as a CSM in their call centre we would get fairly frequent calls from the in store customer service departments where a purse or wallet had been found and they asked us to contact the customer as they had a clubcard in there. On occasions we wouldnt be able to find a telephone number for them or the card wasnt registered and therefore we would take a card number of one of their debit/ credit cards and phone up their bank.

We would explain the situation to the bank, ask them to phone their customer (we werent asking for them to give us any details at all) and tell them their purse was at the customer service desk at X store and if they can bring in some proof of identity when they collect it.

60% of banks were "ok", 20% of banks were "many thanks, thats really good that you do that" kind of thing and 20% were "no, we cannot speak to you about the account because of data protection. If the customer reports the card as stolen we will cancel the card then".... the vast majority of the time it was the same banks that fell into the same response

The good feeling you'll get when you give it back to its rightful owner is reward enough, surely ?

I once found £200 in a Natwest ATM
    It was on a sunday.
I took it to the local policestation.
They said I could take it to the bank.
I handed it in at the bank.
Later I was sent a bottle of single malt whisky by the bank.
They told me that a customer came in for the money.
I did not receive any communication from the customer.
When I found the money I was tempted to keep it but I did not do so.
I thought that the money might be very important to the rightful owner.
I have felt good about what I did ever since even though I would have liked to be thanked by the customer rather than or as well as, the bank.

    Nice one.

Its good karma. If i found an ipod/mobile phone/wallet, then i would do my upmost to find who it belonged to. I'd like to think they would do the same :)
