Reward for finding a credit/debit card??

I found someones Barclays Business Debit Card on the ground yesterday and havent had a chance yet to report it to Barclays. I remember when I worked for HSBC that if you found a lost card that you could send it back and in return they would give you £50.00 reward . Do you know if this happens with other banks?

  • That card has probably been stopped for the last 24 hours and a new one is on its way.

The good feeling you'll get when you give it back to its rightful owner is reward enough, surely ?

Oh yeah totally, however this wont be going back to its owner but to Barclays as this was found at an airport carpark. I thought there's no harm in asking anyway, if they dont do it then there's no problem.

I am sure "a man in a pub" would probably give you more for it than any bank ;)

i thought the £50 was for cards which they had on their "wanted" list as such and I think that still applies. But not for ones that are lost in the street otherwise I could see a great money making idea...... ;)

I think this has stopped now as most transactions are authorised at point of sale. It wasnt in the "older days" when lots of transaction were done offline, or via paper slips!
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.
  • When I worked for a high street jeweller we used to get £50 for every credit card that was unauthorised and we were told by their bank to retain the card (ie man comes in to buy £500 ring on credit card, it's referred so we call up the bank to authorise the sale who then tell us they won't authorise it and we have to keep the card and send it back to them.... similar to a hole in the wall keeping your card.).

The card industry run a scheme (which a lot of retail staff know nothing about) whereby the staff is rewarded for spotting and stopping the use of suspected stolen or cloned cards.

Staff receive at least a £50 reward for each card retained AND there’s no limit to how many rewards one can earn!

I found a Halifax debit card in my local Tesco supermarket carpark before Christmas - I picked it up, took it in the store to Customer Services and left it with them to deal with it.
