Council Tax Band After: F
Amount refunded: £2620
Annual saving going forward: ca £300
Read the article and spent a couple of hours discretely looking around the other houses in our post code which were band G. All houses are different so difficult to judge the value of our house, however, I was convinced they couldn't put us up to H so thought it worth a try. If I don't know for sure the value of our house then how could the authorities know sufficiently to justify their decsion if it came to an appeal? Applied on-line and after a couple of phone calls to chivvy them along the valuation office agreed that we should be F, back dated to 1993. Easiest money I have ever made! Many thanks to all involved

If you think your Council Tax band is wrong and you do not fit the criteria for a review, then don't despair. YOU CAN AND WILL GET A REVIEW! I have lived in my present house since it was built in 1992. The house cost £90000 and was put into Band E. Imagine my surprise when I discovered my two neighbours were in Band D! I wrote to the VOA using the letter template on this website which states that the banding is incorrect and should be changed. I received two letters back in reply. The first said I was not entitled to a review as I had not objected within the time scale and the other letter (which arrived on the same day) stated that the VOA was going to conduct a review to ensure that the original decision was 'fair and consistent'! The outcome of the review was that the banding was changed from Band E to Band D - it was as easy as that! Thanks, Martin!0 -

I was introduced to this site by a friend. I followed the step by step process and found that a few of my neighbours had already had their banding reduced over the past few years.
I wrote to the VOA and within 4 weeks they confirmed that they were reducing my Band!! That was the easy bit.
It then took another 5 weeks to get the money out of Chelmsford Borough Council with numerous calls and letters chasing for my refund. I have now received my cheque for £1400 but they did want to use half of it to pay off this years bill!! As I always pay monthly I declined their kind offer and requested all of the money back and confirmed I would continue to pay the remaining balance on my 07/08 bill by monthly direct debit.0 -
