Council have stated that "Live Records" only go back to April 2010 so have declined to refund the period from 2000 when she first moved into property.  I intend to pursue - anyone know how?
Very difficult as without their record of payments, councils are unable to confirm how much MIL has paid so would be unable to refund any excess. If  she bank statements showing DDs from 2000 to 2010 it may help, but council may not accept these.

In one respect she is lucky as some councils have destroyed payment records more than 6 years old, citing GDPR and Dorset Council was only formed in May 2018, so she is fortunate they have payment records prior to this date

    Hi all,

got quite a random one, I have been contacted by the person who bought my property in 2011 and is still living int his property, he has advised me that the council tax band I was paying for was incorrect and that he has claimed a refund. Even though I left in 2011 he seems to think I could claim a refund back on this.

    Area Scotland
    Council Dundee
Council tax band B (should of been band A) - all properties around my old address were band A and have been

I have checked the both aspects of it and it should of been in Band A

Would this be something I could try and challenge even though I've left the property?

Only the current CT payer can challenge the band. If the band is reduced to Band A, then you can claim a refund for the period of your occupation providing the effective date has been appropriately backdated and the council still have your payment records (some councils have destroyed payment records more than 6 years old)
