If it is the original battery it might well be fubar. Several places will do you a free test on it although they will of course then want to sell you one if that turns out to be the issue it looks like you might not have much choice!

Doesn't stop you haggling a bit though!

to be honest, I would get a good garage to test it using a soak/ dump tester.
Do you know how old the battery is ?
On auto s jumping gear it is the number 1 thing to eliminate.
Then if it persists you start on the expensive stuff.
Thanks. The only problem is the earliest the garage can look at the car is Tuesday and it means a day off work. However, if it's just a battery I could change the battery myself and not loose a day off work if that makes sense.

No idea how old the battery is. I bought the car in December last year and it's the battery that was in the car when I bought it.

Might have a date on it...

National should do a battery check, plus in MSE style you can download a 10% off voucher as well.

If it's marked "Ford", then it's either the original or the previous owner was a bit of a fool and only ever took the car to Ford dealerships.

How much did that cost you if you don't mind me asking?

Went and got the battery tested and the print out they gave me said 12.5V, starting charge 51%, Battery Unserviceable but they said the problems don't sound like something that'd be caused by the battery.

On my way home from work thecar was much worse. It was jumping gears (ie from 1 to 3 and 3 to 5) and onmore than a few occassions the car really struggled to move off as if it was in a higher gear than it shouldve been. Also when I put my foot down i could feel the car shuddering.

Genuine is about £150 retail, for the coilpack alone.

My Zafira has a new "Vauxhall" battery.

So does the Fiat, the Peugeot, and the Austin for that matter.

    Cheapest battery at trade.

The question is whether it's a gearbox fault or an engine/ecu fault.

A few things it could be:

    (1) Air mass meter
    (2) Exhaust gas recirculation valve
    (3) Coil Pack (Around £100-£200 excluding fitting on most average cars)

If it's an autobox problem then get a member of https://www.fedauto.co.uk to check it out.
