Dryer in "under stairs" cupboard

Can anyone advise please?

I am re-doing kitchen and am having trouble fitting in a Dryer.

I have a redundant pantry (need space for units) that goes into the space under the stairs so, am blocking this doorway up and maybe open it up in the hallway as I don't want to lose the space.

Would there be any problems in siting a dryer in this cupboard? It backs onto an outside wall if it needed to be vented. Also, as the vent would come out of the side of the house, would it be an eyesore?

I was originally thinking of putting washer there but because of plumbing etc, thought the dryer might be the better option.

Sorry for the daft question but have never had a dryer before so don't know the ins and outs!

I rejigged kitchen 2 year ago, I have w/m & dryer both in an old pantry cupboard, forunately top and bottom vents already in place, bottom used for waste water from wash machine, top vent for drier.

Louvre vent for dryer, not an eyesore and flush with outer wall.

    HTH?

We recently put our new dryer in a cupboard backing onto an outside wall. Its a condensing dryer but we do tend to have the window open and cupboard door open when running just for extra ventilation.

I did what you are considering when I last did our kitchen and it worls very well. EID liked a washer/dryer (thank the lord it hasn't gone wrong yet!) and that went in at floor level. Blocked the window up and the new boiler was hung on the wall. Very space saving. Louvre doors on the new entrance in the hallway allowed for ventilation.

    Cheers

    Thanks! everyone.

I am gutted that I can't fit both washer and dryer in space. Because of slope of stairs, it's not quite high enough one on top of other and not quite wide enough for side by side.

Just have to decide which one will go in there now.

What's the general feeling on combined Washer/Dryers?

    Don't !

    1. They are not very reliable.
    2. Most only dry half the load that they wash. Wash 8lbs, dry 4 lbs ............not very efficient

I have never owned a combo machine, so can't comment. As you mention in OP, dryer is easier option as there is no requirement for plumbing and waste water removal pipe work.

    Regards............
  • Don't buy a combo. I've had the hotpoint engineer more times round than I care to mention.

I used to have a condenser dryer in a cupboard under the stairs. i used to leave the dor a crack open when using for ventilation though when using, and had no problems. Think thats the key.

I did this, before re-jigging our house and it worked well. I had a condensor dryer. Mine stood on top of each other as they wouldn't fit side by side.
  • Dryer will dry under the stairs also. If it malfunctions & sparks or overheats your exit (stairs) is already torched.

Are you ok to jump out of the windows?
    Not Again
  • Could you fit a smaller dryer on top of a full sized washing machine in there? We used to have a space saving tumble dryer which was smaller in dimension than a regular dryer but still very good. perhaps one of those on top of a washing machine could work?
