Ok we installed a multi fuel stove last year and were getting to grips with it last winter! After about 3-4 months of use it started to make a hissing sound.. we tried all sorts adjusting thermostat, high heat low heat etc but it would just start after stove had been on for a while or indeed from you would first light it!
We have discussed this with our plumber (who is extremely clued on) but we can't seem to identify the problem if there indeed is one. It may just do this i really dont know!
Any suggestions ??

Lets get the obvious out of the way first - was / is your wood properly seasoned? Wet wood will hiss and fizzle...0

ok no its def not the wood etc it's the stove.0

Does the stove have a back boiler?0

yes sorry should have said that!0

Well there aren't many places on a stove where a hiss and fizzle could come from (I get that from wood sometimes, but not my stove). I'n no expert at all, but I'd say the hiss is steam leaking, and the fizzle is water (either leaking or from condensed steam) hitting a hot surface. I expect it could only leak when pressurised. Seems so obvious (but maybe I'm wrong) I wonder why your plumber can't trace it. I could be that the leak may be in an unaccessible place, and maybe he doesn't want the hassle of fixing it, but that's just supposition. It's not a pressure release valve blowing is it?0

no def no leak that's been explored i thought mayb someone would have had this experience and found the solution as we have spoken to a few pps who have had a stove which hisses but haven't been able to suss out whether it is something which can be fixed...0

o my plumber is excellent & not a pressue release valve either... we baffled!!0

Sorry I am not sure how your system is set up.
If water is comming out then water has to be replaced? is it possible to check the header tank to see if there is a replacement drip there. This would put your mind at rest regarding any type of leak?
Does the hissing stop at all?The measure of love is love without measure0
