Not sure if this is in right place but here goes.
Hi, I have a K and Co (formerly Kays) catalogue. I have always paid more than the minimum monthly amount. Since about April the minimum monthly amount as been £53 something, but I have been paying £85.00 each month in plently of time. Anyway last month I just forgot all about it & paid it a day late (online). I have been charged £12 and no doubt the late payment will go on my credit report.
Anyway as I have been paying £30 more each month for last 3-4 months, shouldnt I be in 'credit'? Should they have used the overpayments instead of charging me? Any advice on how overpayments are allocated will be appreciated.
I am not that bothered about the charge its my credit report that worries me.

You're not 'in credit', you were just reducing your debt at a more sensible rate than paying the minimum. Wait and see, they may not report a single missed payment...0

As above, a single missed payment is unlikely to go on your file if this is the first time.0

I hope not.
Its not the first time, last time was about two years ago0 -
I have had arguements with them over their minimum payments. I overpay on my catalogue accounts because I always buy from them, it means I can buy stuff that I might not be able to afford outright but am able to pay back interest free. I choose to pay by standing order, weekly. Their statements are delivered 4 weekly, you are given 3 weeks to pay the amount in full. They accept my payments and then sometimes charge me for late payment (if the 4th weekly payment doesn't reach them on time) which I understand, however, they still count it as payment toward the "late" statement and not toward the following one, which would mean I would be in front.
It means payment 1, 2 and 3 (which were on time) and payment 4 (which sometimes misses because of the timescale) are all included on the first statement. I have argued that if I am being charged a late payment fee they should take payment four and apply it to the following statement, which would mean I have paid the four payments in time and I wouldn't be classed as late. They refuse to do this, but still count any payments from other weeks towards previous rather than future statements..... did I just confuse everyone??Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

k&co catalogue are a nightmare, their statements are every 28 days so if like me you get paid on the last working day of each month you are on to a loser straight away. i owed £39 , missed one payment because my pay was 3 days after the date i had to pay, i knew there would be a £12 late payment charge, when i rang up the most unhelpful customer service number, i got told told that my balance was now £77.60 and a total of £36 had been added to my account !!! £12 was for a phone call from a cheery chap reminding me that my payment was late, i already knew this and didnt require or request that phone call but got it anyway at a charge of £12. these people will not budge on anything when you ring them up and try and make some arrangement, they are pretty arrogant some of them (not all) but are quite robotic in their replies, you could swear you owed them money personally,. it is no wonder to me that people sink into debt when these people are allowed to charge such ridiculous charges, my advice to anyone is DONT use this catalogue at all, it is far better to go without than buy from this company who's prices are already double everywhere else you could buy the item from, and then watch that debt grow into something ridiculous because they will always find a reason the slap the charges on. this really shouldnt be allowed.0

So you know their statements are every 28 days... In which case you have ample opportunity to budget for this going forward...
And you won't be using them again because YOU broke the terms of the agreement?0 -
They are part of the same group as littlewoods, very and isme. Needn't say more...0

I emailed them a while ago asking them why they did a 4 weekly payment plan and not just do it with how everyone is paid monthly nearly all companies these days allow you to pay monthly even better for them if you could set a DD up on a set date. But they don't budge from it.
Is a bit difficult sometimes as the dates get very close to my payday but I have been lucky so far they haven't charged me0
