Haggle on payg iphones?

Has anyone been able to haggle or get anything thrown in free for buying a pay as you go phone?
Oh & I are buying 2 iphone 4's at the weekend on pay as you go which comes to about £1000, we would ideally like to be on o2 (it seems the best) so were going to go to the Carphone Warehouse and the O2 shop to see what they could do...we cant get contracts because of bad credit in the past.

Any advice / best way to go about it...or will it be a waste of time and just pay the price on the box!

    There's no harm in asking.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

  • You both have bad credit and there goes another grand on 2 phones?

albion does have a fair point. I think you will probably find that the price of the phones when bought on PAYG will be fixed. I don't think there is much flexibility in the price of the actual handset - Apple seem to be good at controlling the price of their products.

I get discounts on certain Apple products through work. I once enquired about the iPhone. The guy on the phone who worked for Apple told me that it does not apply for iPhones and that even he doesn't get a discount on them.

dont bother with giffgaff - total garbage.
"dont buy them on payg as they will be locked to that network, buy from apple !!!!!!!
if i were you i would pop into a local apple store and purchase from there, therefore the phones will be sim free and open to any network you choose. you may get some free accesories??
personally im a fan of three.
i purchased my iphone from an apple store and then got a sim only deal from three.

    good luck.

    1. DON'T buy it on PAYG as the phones will be locked to that network.
    2. buy the phones direct from apple sim free this way you can switch to cheaper networks at any time and the phones will have a better resale price. (you can get free micro sims for the iphone from any network) (you may pay like £10 more for sim free from apple but it is worth it)
    3. DON'T buy one this weekend AT ALL apple is (all pointers say so) going to announce and release the iPhone 5 within a matter of weeks, which will extremely likely be the exact same price as the iphone 4 is now, PLUS apple is also set to release a version of the iphone 4 that will be a reduced price.
    4. there is no negotiation on iphone prices - that is just the way it is

so to sum DO NOT BUY THE IPHONE FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS

I'd agree this close to the rumoured launch date I'd hang fire, however Apple for the past new launches have lowered the sticker price of the "old" model but also lowered the spec. The "old full spec" stock is withdrawn not sold off at a discount.

If rumours are to be believed then when iPhone 5 is released then Iphone 4 will cease to be available in 16 and 32 GB versions and just be in 8GB versions.

Yes iPhone 4 will be cheaper when iPhone 5 is launched but it will be a lesser spec.

Not strictly true, I can get a work Coprorate Vodafone discount (10% IIRC on phones and plans) and that can be used on iPhone. I can also get an Apple Store discount and I'd get £6 off a £500 new iphone. I guess it depends on the level of corporate discount you get through different companies.

As stated above buy from the Apple Store and than get yourself a SIM Only deal, you'll get more Mins etc for less money.

I think you can get 2% off at Apple via Quidco (not much, but something) & / or buy them on a Cashback Creditcard and you might get upto 5% cashback

Also wait a few weeks until the iPhone 5, that way you know if the iPhone is better for you and if not the iPhone 4 may come down in price.
