Halifax One credit card - Removed online option to pay by debit card

I can't understand why Halifax have removed the option to pay an amount off your credit card online via a debit card. It appears to be only available if you have a Halifax or Bank of Scotland bank account.
Other than setting up a direct debit, this was one of the easiest ways of paying off your credit card each month.
Perhaps I'm being cynical but it seems like yet another attempt to make it inconvenient for customers to actually make payment, thereby increasing the volume of charges to cusstomers for late payments / account arrears.

i had a moan about this on another thread elsewhere

Hi - I heard on the grapevine that it might be something to do with them developing a new online banking system, which has inconvenienced a lot of non HBOS current account customers.0

because they are merging systems with Lloyds TSB (moving on to the Lloyds platform) some functionality has been removed. It will doubtless be reintorduced in future.I can't understand why Halifax have removed the option to pay an amount off your credit card online via a debit card.
Setting up a payment from your current account to your credit card isn't the most challenging thing you might do today.Other than setting up a direct debit, this was one of the easiest ways of paying off your credit card each month.
Believe it or not, more customers paying late increases the risk rating of the bank itself. This makes it more expensive for them to raise money so it makes them less profitable.Perhaps I'm being cynical but it seems like yet another attempt to make it inconvenient for customers to actually make payment, thereby increasing the volume of charges to cusstomers for late payments / account arrears.
In other words, you're both cynical and wrong.0 -

The system was already in place and worked effectively.
Do you not think the bank having a facility to accept another bank's debit card payment, might not be the most challenging thing 'it' does today (as opposed to being 'doubtlessly' introduced in the future)? We'll wait and see.
Cynical perhaps, through previous bank experience.
And I'm obviously wrong, because a bank or financial institution would never ever use a system that encourages late payment charges or additional interest. Hmm...I'll certainly agree to differ on that point.0 -
I know it was. But as the HBOS online systems were being scrapped in favour of the Lloyds TSB ones it was going to be killed off.The system was already in place and worked effectively.
Lloyds, following their "merger" with HBOS, set about moving all things HBOS on to the Lloyds platform which has a better reputation for things like Faster Payments but offered less functionality in other areas. As you've discovered.Do you not think the bank having a facility to accept another bank's debit card payment, might not be the most challenging thing 'it' does today (as opposed to being 'doubtlessly' introduced in the future)? We'll wait and see.
You're wrong because the reasons for the change are as I've just stated. It's not an attempt to "help" you to pay late. As I previously stated, more customers paying late would damage the bank's own credit rating which would increase its funding costs and further depress its share price. And I'm obviously wrong, because a bank or financial institution would never ever use a system that encourages late payment charges or additional interest. Hmm...I'll certainly agree to differ on that point.
I can't say I'm overly impressed with the lesser functionality I currently get compared to what was on offer a couple of years ago. But it's nothing to do with a conspiracy to make it harder to pay your credit card bill.0 -
Some reason they dont send my pays same day to my halifax card, and my bank is even them grrDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Me neither. Conspiracy or not the fact remains that a modern banking system should enable payments to be made as easy as possible. The bank now offers a lesser service, and puts the onus on the customer to sort out an alternative way to pay them. This does absolutely nothing to appease the banks already tarnished reputation with customers.0 -

Well, if one doesn't have a current account with Halifax, it makes it impossible to pay off a foreign currency withdrawal quickly. This means that the amount of interest payable will be greater.
Sounds cynical to me but then again it's just the bank maximising profits and that's OK. Isn't it?0 -

18 months have passed since that post and it has still not been reintroduced.0
