There has to be a period of inactivity on the account/s before eBay will close them.
I believe that period of time is 180 days - although I stand to be corrected.

The person died very suddenly, I have checked his account today, and he was neither selling nor buying any items so there is no unfinished business on that side. I just want to ensure that no-one in the future fraudulently attempts to hack into the account.
