Help required please - Re Death Notification

Hi all

I have searched ebay help, but can't find my answer, so i am hoping someone on here can help please.

I need to notify ebay and paypal of a death, in order that the persons account can be closed. Any ideas as to how I go about this?

The person died very suddenly, I have checked his account today, and he was neither selling nor buying any items so there is no unfinished business on that side. I just want to ensure that no-one in the future fraudulently attempts to hack into the account.

Many thanks for any advice

  • How could you check HIS account?
Drop Ebay an e-mail and send them a copy of death certificate in due course.

I checked his account as i know both his user name and password, i wanted to ensure that no-one was either waiting for an item or for payment. Do you think i was wrong to do this?

    thanks

If YOU can get into his account, maybe you could just close it yourself on his behalf.

    Sorry for your loss x

I don't think he knows how, or he wouldn't bother posting would he?

Best bet would be to email paypal directly and ask for help, in the meantime remove all his details from the account (bank/address etc)

Ebay/Paypal would probably only deal with family or next of kin. Copy of death certificate etc.. Otherwise anyone could say someone had died and get their account closed.

If the OP has access to the account, it may be easier to close it themselves.

Thanks for all the advice, not getting very far, everything is automated, so when i try and close the persons account it thinks it is my account, as it is going through my email address (hope that makes sense) and i want mine account left open!

I have emailed ebay and get the same automated advice.

I think i will need to just leave it for now, until i can log onto the persons computer, and try that way instead, or maybe get a non automated response.

Many thanks for all the adivise, it is much appreciated.

It is not until someone dies, that you realise how many everyday things need to be sorted, and how complicated it can be.

For example one website, which won't be named and shamed quite yet, has refused to accept a return ordered by the deceased person, and which arrived after his death, even though we are quite willing to send a death certificate as proof. The item in question can't be used by any other members of the family and cost nearly £300. Another member of the family is trying to sort that one out, so i won't interfere, (not yet anyway).

    thanks again

If you clear ALL your cookies, temp files etc, then you should be able to log in on his name and do it that way.

to close the account you may also need access to the persons Ebay registered email address, I think they send a mail in which you need to confirm the account is being closed.

If you have access to the account just email Ebay from the account and ask them to close it. Don't tell them you're not the person. Just say it's no longer required.
It's not the taking part but the winning that counts.
