Evening gals,
I was just wondering if any of you had tried Lush's dusting powders? I've got a craving to buy some toiletries and I figured that at least I don't have any powders! What do people use talcum powder for? Is it after using body lotion or instead of? TIA x0 -

Oh, how I love reading the stash lists! Carolyn12, I'm with you on this one (I.e. Plucking up courage to post my own stash list of shame).
Ruby Eskimo, glad to see that somebody else shares my talent for buying unnecessary foot care products. I had a word with myself a few weeks ago when tempted to buy a foot mask and made it clear that life really is too short for foot masks!
Also fascinated to spot other people's Achilles heels: eyeliner (lady morticia), nail varnish (Minerva wind song), travel sizes (Essex Hebridean), facial products (shjo; you may be amused to discover that the spellchecker on the device attempted to change your name to 'sumo'!) and body shop products (absinthe fairy; what a collection!).
I'm aspiring to be like the star performers who seem to have whittled their stashes down brilliantly.
I was thinking about why we all seem to have so much stuff. Reading this thread it's clear that you're all smart, funny women so why the need to accumulate so much?
I think that for lots of us it's got something to do with having understood at a young age that we're judged on our appearance and feeling (irrationally, irrespective of how smart we are) that there's a product out there that will make us perfect or irresistible or like the images of airbrushed perfection we're constantly confronted with.
For me it started with feeling less feminine than other girls in my early teens because I was tall, skinny and flat chested (quite like it now, although not as skinny as I was then!). I've got dark hair and pale skin and I remember a girl in my class saying, "ooh, aren't you hairy! Look, isn't Helen hairy?" and pointing at my arms. So in my mind, accumulating make up, toiletries and perfume (and yes, things to make my feet - size 8 to match my height and showing the signs of having spent many years in heels - prettier and more girly) made me feel that I was more like other girls! Self tan mania also began around then.
I'm sure we each have our own motivations but I think the reason using stuff up is so satisfying is that by doing so we're kind of confronting our demons if you see what I mean!0 -
sarah- I buy the asda little angels cotton pads and they are great, you get 100 in a pack and they are huuuge and really strong. I think last time I got them on 2 for £2, but they are now 2 for £2.50 if that helps:)
I find that the Boots cotton wool pads in the baby section are cheaper than the ones in the beauty section. I go through a lot of these as well and would love to use something else. After reading this will try removing my eye make up with a mulsin cloth. Not so sure about applying toner or using nail polish remover with it though.ruby_eskimo wrote: »Sorry to but in everyone, but I desperately need some more participants for my masters thesis.
