Since when did u have to pay for Special Delivery bags?

Ive always got a stash from my local post office but lately have had to go to ones out of my area to get some more. I asked for one in the Angel post office and was told 'That's £5.90 then please'. I was like 'What?' Apparently if your not using it there an then you have to pay? You cant take, package and come back/take elsewhere.

I tried another branch (far from Angel) and was given the same spiel, however as im in there daily he said he can give me a few. At first he refused.

My local gives them out whenever you ask and any size with no questions along with RD and SD rolls. It's just a shame I cant use it as often due to work location.

When did this happen??? so you pay £5.90 for envelope and then £5.90 for the postage? What a scam...

Are you sure it wasn't £5.90 including the postage, a bit like pre-pay?

Andy why do you need a special envelope/bag?

You can send SD items in normal envelopes/boxes/packaging also... you're not restricted to SD bags.

    Andy is a typo :o

But, you don't need SD bags, you can send parcels/letters/packets in anything, they just stick an SD label on, easy peasy.

£5.90 is for anything that weighs between 100g - 500g, that's the smallest pre-pay they do, but they do larger ones for heavier items.

    I think you misunderstood.

Maybe the Post Office people there misunderstood - you can get prepay and postpay bags, I guess, I get the postpay ones free a few at a time for SD, very handy, but prepay would be great for some things. Maybe they thought you were after the prepaid ones much like you can buy prepaid airmail letters or pepaid 1st class postage envelopes.

I don't know who misundestood whom - but there has definitely been a misunderstanding somewhere along the line.

You wouldn't be expected to pay £5.90 for a SDE and then pay an additional £5.90 (assuming the contents were within that price band) for postage.

Like the others these are pre pay bags and they are the only sort that my local Crown PO now carry. They used to carry the other sort where you could take them away and come back later- but apparently people were taking them turning them inside out and using them for regular mail.
