I can understand how you feel about not seeing your daughter as lots of us have been in that postion my son and i used to leave the house at 7 am and not get home till 6.30/7.00pm at night where he was having supper and going straight to bed as he still saw his dad he was there at weekends so I never got anytime with him apart from the holidays ! I managed to buy my own house though after all my hard work so it paid of and was only for couple of years as moved closer to school/work and managed to negotiate hours down so was 9.00 till 6.00 lol

If you have an X-box and Sky television, why are you complaining about being hard up?

I would get all self-righteous about how MSE was supposed to be free from judgement, though I've been guilty of it in the past myself when something has riled me enough... but still, I can't see how giving her a hard time is going to achieve anything and pertains to her original question... Come on guys...

OP - it's unlikely you'll be fined for a first offence, just make sure you get a TV licence at your earliest convenience and then keep paying it. If you post a full SOA, http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html, then perhaps we can help you out with your budget and show you places to save money so you can afford your TV license and perhaps help you to repay your debts faster so you're debt free...

P.S I became a single mother at 17 years and I worked a minimum of 16 hours per week from my son (who is now 9 years old) being 8 weeks of age because I HAD to, not because I wanted to. I know you think it's to the detriment of your daughter that she doesn't get to see you as often, however, children are VERY resilient and you'll find what you're actually doing - if your daughter even remembers this when she's older - is instilling a good work ethic in her.

If you don't want to work full time, then consider working part time - 2 or 3 full days a week - and then you still have 4 or 5 days to spend time with her. I know being able to stop working and look after your children is a luxury, I myself am a stay-at-home mother now to my 3 kids, but unfortunately, in some circumstances working is a necessity and if you're in debt, then unfortunately you need to hold down a job to live to whatever standard you deem adequate, at least to allow you to service your debts.

Surely 16 hours per week is a worthy sacrafice NOT to have the burden and worry of financial pressures?

Often what we want to do and what we need to do are often two very different things.

  • Guys, lets not be too quick to judge and get on the highhorse.

For the OP can someone post a linky to the State of Affairs thingy and see if we can help in other ways?

Sky should be really the first priority, get a free digi box for now.

If this gets to court please make sure you go and take a copy of your in coming and out goings you will receive a fine ask for time to pay and ask that it be deducted from your benefits if you cant afford to pay it on the day

do NOT miss a payment if you do that when the bailiffs are sent to collect if bailiffs are sent it will cost you approx £300 in bailiff fees

Maybe I should explain myself a little better I have been out of work for 1 month hense the xbox and the sky. Sky which has been cancelled and the xbox which is going on ebay. I dont smoke or drink.

It wasn't the smartest thing to do giving up my job but I am applying for jobs everyday. When my daughter goes back into school I'm going to be volunteering which I did before I found work. I was starting work at 1.30pm and finishing at 6.30pm so child costs were also coming into it.

I am more than happy to work full time and like I said before i'm applying for full time jobs aswell as part time.

I'm really not asking for sympathy It was really just a bit of advice really. But thank you for the advice regarding the TV licence I'm going to be buying one today.

The judge (at the court) will be quick to judge. Guilty £100 fine. £15 Victim surcharge.

Sky should be the last priority certainly not the first. Rent first, food, elec, gas, then sort out what's left and prioritize.

You would be better off keeping the XBOX and the computer and not watching TV at all. Play with the XBOX whenever you are bored. Disconnect the Sky box and use the computer connected through the telly to watch catch up services for free on BBC iplayer and other websites. Saving you £145.50 per year.

I meant sky should be the first thing on the list to be shot of, apologies.
