Any tips on what the problem might be?
Dust and dirt on the contacts. Be careful not to damage them when cleaning them.

ah the old days when if a game didn't work you took it out the machine & blew on it and it magically worked :rotfl:

    Thanks again

What should i clean them with, and how...i.e dirty rag and washing up liquid, or specialist fluid with specialist cotton bud? or anything in between (i'm not being funny, i really don't know...well, i do know not to try the rag and washing up liquid...not after the DVD player incident.....:)

I've no idea really - have a look on Google. I think I've seen rubbing alcohol on cotton buds suggested for cleaning contacts on things, but I've never tried it myself.

Maybe try blowing out the dust first like bluenoseam said.

When the sound went funny on my iPhone, sucking the dust out of the headphone socket fixed it, but I don't know if the socket on a DSi is to big for this to work.

I'm not sure if you can clean the internal contacts - maybe blowing hard into the slot as already suggested.
You could try and jam a piece of card under the games cart as you insert it , in order to make the contacts make better contact. Use a piece that is long enough to pull out or it might all jam in !! Maybe cereal packet doubled over.
