Cheap mobile calls to america
Options
I'm currently with Orange but the contract is up for renewal so thought I'd look around for a deal that offers cheap international calls - specifically to America. I currently have a bundle that takes the cost per minute down to 17p, but wonder if anybody else has a better deal with an alternative network. I know my other option is to through one of those 'cheap international calls' companies but wondered if there was a traditional mobile company that was more competitive.

Lebara pay and go sim - 5p a minute calls to US - awesome as Americans might say.
I just checked lebara, prices have gone up from 4p a minute - GRRR.
Rebtel is another and they do calls to US for 0.69p a minute but I think that is landlines, mobiles is 10p on rebtel probably.0 -

Assuming that you are happy to spend your UK allowance on US calls, what's the point in paying 17p or switching between the 'traditional' providers if you can call US for 1p from any provider? Is it a problem to register with, say, 1899 and add 02081 804 804 prefix to the US numbers saved in your mobile?0 -
No. US does not differentiate between landlines and mobiles. So, it always costs the same to call US landlines and mobiles. Hence, the reason why it costs to receive a call in the US.
Very good rate there by Rebtel, BTW. The US landlines/mobiles is probably one of the cheapest places in the world to reach. Most calling cards charge 1p or less.

Signed my bro upto rebtel a while back - he has lebara too but uses rebtel with his uk phone - and gets cheap texts to US too (requires internet connection on mobile) but it works a charm.
And in US - my sis signed up to rebtel too and chopped her bill down from something silly like $40 a month to a few cents.0 -
Thanks for all the info. Excellent advice.0
