Project managing/costing a renovation

Before you even think about making an offer , first ask to see the sellers full structural survey report, if they have not done one ! put in your offer subject to the full structural survey report. If the seller refuses to do one then maybe they have something to hide !
Is this an old house ?0 -

I have never heard of a seller paying for a survey. If a buyer wants the house then they commission a survey. Even if a seller had a survey I wouldn't trust it - I'd get my own done by someone I knew was fully independent.0 -
Thanks for the thought Robert. It's probably no harm to ask if they have done a structural survey although I suspect that most won't unless they have concerns and are trying allay them in advance. In any case as pinkteapot says it would be madness not to get your own survey done independently.
Unfortunately our offer for this house wasn't accepted as they've had a 'significantly higher' one which has now gone to survey. I imagine the buyers will end up spending more at the price they've gone to + renovations than if they'd bought a 'ready to move into' version if the estimates that I have are accurate so wonder if they aren't going to use the survey to reduce the price they pay. Just speculating - maybe they really like the house and it's worth the higher price to them. We told the EA to let us know if they did pull out but time for us to move on to looking for another one I think.0
