I've bought a CD to do it at home as I can't afford to go to see someone. Whilst a little sceptical, there is definitely something to it. I'm not wanting to eat big quantities and even feel a little nauseous, i.e hungry and wanting lunch, couldn't face a sandwich and full after half a cup a soup (I eat HUGE portions normally).

From experience, I do need to listen everyday, as I lost a stone on the Paul McKenna CD but stopped losing as soon as I stopped listening to it.

i had one done last month in one three hour session

To be honest when left i felt ripped off and felt that it was a bit of a con

But...... over the next few days i found i was eating less and less and my eating was far more controlled
i basically stopped thinking about food totally and its been pretty consistant ever since

Its been mainly stupid things like i can go into shops and buy a paper and not walk out with a bar of chocolate :D and when i do eat i feel full up and satisfied and no longer raid the kitchen

so far i have lost 9lbs but i did go on holiday and put on a 1lb but that in itself is amazing as i can normally put on half a stone when on holiday

Do you also question your doc/nurse's right to query your health if they are overweight? They know the health risks - maybe its because like them, we are human. You will find fat, skinny, ugly, pretty, old, young. They are all human with follibles :p If you want to change your weight, you have to want to change your previous behaviour towards food. One saying that holds for me is the art of madness is doing the same thing yet expecting different results ;)

Change is scary, yet so rewarding when it is a life goal like Alicat (you go girl :Tjust noticed how much you lost!) It proves you had it in you all along and just needed the right nudge

To anyone who want hypno, make sure whoever you see holds a good qualification. Look at the complementary healthcare council for advice and some doctors now have NHS trust registered hypnotherapists so if you are going to your doctor may be worth asking for a recommendation.

TBH I don't think I made my point clearly -which is often the case- at least, it didn't answer it.

fwiw, I was looking into ihypnotherapy for pain control. I might try it, if I find a hypnotherapist who I'd feel comfortable with, but if comfortable is mandatory then I have to rule out all the local ones who seem to be mediums and faith healers too.

AI also know many hypnotherapists who cant go to other hypnotherapists as they are aware of what is going to happen:D

that sounds to me a classic definiton of snake oil.......
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Maybe like lostinrates I havent done a good job of explaining myself. Its too late at night to list research that most people will find boring.
Instead, here is a link with a brief description both in pdf and mp3 of hypnotherapy, with additional links about how to choose a therapist etc. For anyone interested in the research, watch the first video link below

    http://www.bsch.org.uk/hypnotherapy.htm

Lostinrates, here are some videos that may help you decide if hynotherapy is good at pain relief and show you hypnotherapy in action.

This link was televised "live" hypnosurgery programme from More4 in 2006,

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6246151609103284389, its 2hrs long but lots of valuable info particulary the last half hour, as it shows how well hypnosurgery has been in Belgium, and it is admitted how closed minded us Brits are about hypno.

http://videos.howstuffworks.com/discovery/30578-one-step-beyond-hypnosurgery-video.htm (this is a short one from discovery channel about a doctor who uses hypnotherapy on her patients)

Guess this "snake oil" helps some people :p.
I just cannot stress enough getting a fully qualified therapist .
  • I had hypnotherapy for weight loss (not hypnoband) last year and so far have lost 5 stones. Still a lot more to lose but for me it's the best thing I ever did.

  • Hi everyone

Could you remember to stick to discussing the MoneySaving side of things and not medical please? If anyone's unsure, medically, please do speak personally to a health professional first.

    Thanks!
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

  • I had this done in the early summer months. I also thought it was a bit of a con. It cost about £1500, but I got it cheaper (MSE  ).
It might be the actual therapist, mine was up her own backside.

I didn't lose ANY weight but my attitude to food changed and I eat much less than I used to, just no weight loss :(

When I went back on a later visit I joked and said 'No its not working. I think you'll have to tighten it a bit', she got really shirty and said I was 'to flippant to go under'.

I agree that the self hypnosis tapes are very good, but you do need to listen to them every day. Not just for weight loss either, they have helped me with phobias and sleep problems, nothing though, even meds, have shifted any of my bulk.
