Advise on what happens at the end of a phone contract?
Options
My contract with Orange is due to end soon. It was a 24 month contract when I took it out, with loads of minutes texts etc.
I have an iphone 3gs, and have no intention of upgrading. I'm happy enough with the phone, and feel no need for a new one.
I'd like to stay with orange, but on a much lower tariff. I'm currently paying £40pm.
They have told me that keeping my phone isn't a problem, however the lowest tariff they offer for an iphone is £30pm
This still seems like a hell of a lot to me!
I asked about lowering minutes and texts to see if that would bring it down, but was told no.
Does anyone know if this is correct?

Well considering you've paid them the best part of a grand over the 2 years, I'd say you've paid the value of your phone off.
Depending on how many minutes etc you're looking for a Sim only (12 month contract) tariff with 02, with 600 minutes, unlimited texts, 500mb internet and 300 02 to 02 minutes is £21.50 a month.
You may get it cheaper with other providers, I'd give Orange there notice and take up Sim free with another company personally. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
If you don't do anything the contract turns into a 1-month rolling one.
If you really want to stay with Orange you can switch to any pay monthly or PAYG tariff, not necessarily an iPhone tariff.
However, if you want you almost definitely can find a better deal elsewhere and take your number with you.0
