any one out there got any ideas regarding the sale of your details by the DVLA to third parties? what happened to the data protection act......i am considering writing to DVLA explaining that any release of my details will be a breach of my data protection and will consider taking legal action......if everyone does this they will have to take notice

No they won't unfortunately. The £6,000,000 or so they get for selling these is far more important to them.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Why are you bothered? Have you something to hide?0 -

How about having a look at the screed of threads already here about this - Forum search is top centre-right.0 -
like p_t_p said above, unfortunately, the DVLA will not care. They make a nice little earner, £2.50 a pop at 100% profit, from flogging your details to any Tom, !!!!!! or Harry who claim that they have grounds to pursue an individual for some contravention of "rules".
The DVLA couldn't justify it on Watchdog (and elsewhere!).Plainly and simply, it's a you rub my back, I'll rub yours situation; the DVLA earn a nice bit of profit from it and the PPC's acquire useful information allowing them to harass their victims for illegal sums of money.

Why are you NOT bothered, unless you either work for a scumbag private parking scammer or don't have any cars in the family? They would surely be the only 2 possible explanations for such an unconcerned response to this thread? Or do you just not know about the issue, in which case, please read on - and do not think for one minute that you will never get a fake PCN, they are issued for any old excuse as it's a very fast-growing money-making racket:

It is an absolute scandal that the DVLA thinks it's OK to pass on registered keepers' details to an industry of con-merchants who have zero reason for needing the info and could easily use it for unlawful activity if the info fell into the wrong hands. I am amazed that an MSEer would think that was acceptable?
There are loads of threads on here about the situation and the DVLA even admitted to one poster last year that they had thought that the registered keeper WAS responsible for private parking fake PCNs (explains a lot).
@markeee, if you had searched this forum you would have seen all the other threads saying the same thing, the most recent was less than a week ago on here, see the results here if you wait for the search to load:
Let me Google that for you (MSE specific result)
HTH, complain to the DVLA, complain to your MP.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Are you okay with your personal information being shared with third parties then ? Its not about 'Having something to hide' a lot of people like my self would rather the DVLA didn't make money from giving my details out to scum bag parking companies who have no authority, Personal details are personal and private, Not there to be made into a profit maker.' You only live once ! Don't live to regret the past, But to enjoy the future '

The MSE'er in question must, assumably, have a vested interest in the PPC scam!?
Personally, it really f***s me off that the DVLA can get away with this lark. Nothing to do with people having something to hide, more that innocent, law-abiding citizens despise the fact that the DVLA profit from providing unscrupulous, amoral and criminal extortionists with our information!!!!!0 -
You could write and withdraw your implied rights to have your data shared with any third partie, its a bit like the tick if you dont want us to contact you box, if you dont object, they are free to share data with selected third parties, however you must be given the option to have data kept private and used by holder only, but who has ever objected ?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

It is not an implied right,it is an explicit right granted when the vehicle is registered.
Please read the V62 and V5 documents before you sign them.

It is not the fact they are giving details out, its the reason they are giving them out!
As part of gaining BPA AOS there should have to be a statement in the first paragraph of the initial contact with a RK that should emphasis the responsibility lies with the person who parked. Also stating that there is no requirement in law to provide this information if you do not wish too!0
