    Liners will definately clog quicker, in several years of sweeping I have never come across a chimney clogged with tar.

    Slumber burning is also not a good idea as that leads to improper combustion of the fuel, which in turn causes tar build up.

    love my real fire, we dont light it all that often, but it is lovely and toasty when we do, as is the bedroom above.

    Is it true that any stove above a 5KW needs a air brick stuck in an outside wall as a vent?

    Yes, thanks to the idiots at HETAS. However, I believe you are in Northern Ireland so it may not apply there.

    That's the thing though, the guy that's doing the installation says if I want anything over 5kw by regulations he has to put it in. If this doesn't apply to NI then of course I don't want it in. He says it's for airflow or something but isn't that what opening the window is for?
