Why are we such Litter Bugs

The News, the other day said that "Tidy Northern Ireland" have stated that Northen Ireland was found to be one of the dirtiest places in the UK.....which i tend to agree with.I dont just blame the public for this I also blame some of the local Councils as they dont enforce the litter laws enough.Furthermore they themselves dont have much pride in their towns. The council workers in my town...Larne leave the streets and many parks littered for days and sometimes even months. They trimmed the hedges in the memorial park the other day and just left the remnants lying all over the park.Never bothered tidying it up after them at all, so what can they expect from the public when they have NO PRIDE themselves. The same park has broken glass left lying about for months. The person responsible for this seldom bothers to actually go into the park but merely empties the litter bin at the park opening leaving the rest of the litter to lay there.I have lifted the litter many times myself, filling 2-3 carrier bags full and also written letters to them but nothing seems to have been done. So, Northern Ireland is dubbed one of the dirtiest places so be it....I have given up on the council doing anything substantial about this problem. They arent interested and it shows. The only thing i pick up from the dirty streets of Larne now is glass bottles as I have dogs and do not want them injured and also a vets bill for treatment. The bottom line is that people will continue to drop litter, break glass bottles and leave their dog litter behind them no matter what, but if local councils fail on their part then we can all expect to live among this crap whether we like it or not.....Rant done!!!!!0

Litter Wardens are probably half the answer but unless they are there on the spot to see the culprits actually dropping the litter they cant do anything about it..or so they have told me.But unless the Litter Wardens/Local Councils take an active approach to the problem then the problem will remain and no fines will be imposed.warmhands.coldheart wrote: »Should there be more "litter wardens" (Bit like Traffic Wardens) and bigger fines?? I'm sure they would pay for themselves 10 times over. I'm begining to think people need a good hefty fine to make them really think and to stop doing stuff like this...
The council need a good kick up the rear to get them to take any action.Furthermore a lot of the council workers who are designated to cleaning up the streets etc are just are plain lazy and dont want to be bothered cleaning up(properly) what they are getting paid to clean up.I have battled with them about litter over and over again and all i get are false promises and a load of guff and excuses. My town and the street where i live are still dirty and looks like a right dump most of the time and i reckon its going to stay that way in the long haul.
unfortunately. 0
