It's a shame on the public of Northern Ireland that this is the case.
Think of the ways this money could be better spent if people would just take their litter home or at the least just use a bl**dy bin!.

first, I would say its upbringing...my kids were told when they opened sweet wrappers etc...if there wasn't a bin, put it in your pocket, bring it home and dump it.
Now when I park outside local shops, I see kids walking out , opening sweets and throwing litter straight on the ground...beside the shop's litter bin.
I also see adults opening cigs, throwing away the inside wrapping etc and also throwing cigarette ends on the ground...I'm not saying theres a "typical" type of person that does it, but you see it in more locations than others...just look at the state of some peoples homes and gardens as well...
as for "Drinks litter - cans, bottles and cartons - was found on nearly nine out of 10 rural roads, and was more common across all land uses than chewing gum"
that in my experience is usually down to all the (young) rural residents who visit the towns and cities...load up on fast food outlets, eat stuuf on the way home and before they get there...dump it from car windows...their parents are normally the ones who shout loudest about keeping the countryside tidy as well!No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere0 -

Oh blaming the Cultchies!!... The "Townies" aint exactly angles either....
What I have noticed around where I live is that the Eastern European Community seem to have a real drink culture based around buying cheap drink in the likes of Lidl and then hanging around said stores, walkways, parks etc and leaving a right mess behind..
As do a lot of our own young folk too now also... really needs to be tackled0 -
I agree with this, it's a disgrace. I don't know why we can't have some respect. I put it down to (in addition to poor parental guidance) the root of most evil in the world in my opinion...selfishness.0

Add to this the weeds growing everywhere on footpaths and kerbs, the whole province is a mess!!!0

I find it helpful if you pick up the rubbish, follow the person who dropped it and hand it back to them saying 'excuse me, you seemed to have dropped this' :rotfl:.
Can't do that with dog poo though.0 -
Yes you can, I have in the past shovelled it up and deposited on the offender's doorstep when I had no doubt about where they lived and witnessed the deed!0

I always did it when my childrens' friends dropped litter in or outside my house but I've never had the nerve with a grown up. :eek:0
