Getting baby to take water or juice
Comments

Baby saw the doctor today and was prescribed laxatives, but we'll try the doidy or sippy cup or the syringe first before giving them.
Hopefully he will take some water or juice from the cup and it won't be necessary to give him the laxatives0 -
Zaksmum - my grandson got really constipated and NOTHING seemed to work! so his mum gave him some curry (mild) and that really helped! she didnt tell the HV or the doctor though! her reasoning was that millions of babies ate it!0

We were recommended jelly when DD was not very keen on drinking anything other than milk, you can use juice or squash an make a jelly using powdered gelatine (or agar agar if you are veggie) rather than using a ready made that is just sugar and addatives (sp?). If your LO has not had jelly before though make sure you have a camera ready for the first mouthful as they can pull really great faces when it just slurps in and disappears!0

When my dd was wee, she hated water, I did manage to get her to drink Rooibos or redbush tea, it's a common drink in South Africa for babies as it's good for their stomachs. It's a lot more common now than 5 yrs ago, I had ro get it in a health food store but you can get it in most supermarket's now, You can get a free sample here https://www.redbushtea.com/redbush_request_sample.aspx
Hope your grandson is better soon, my daughter loves water now, it's her drink of choice.

Don't let him stay constipated for long even if he does start to take water. Presumably the doctor examined him and based on the examination decided he needed some medical help. Constipation can very easily turn into faecal impaction which can be very very serious for children and particularly for babies. It isn't just an uncomfortable thing for baby, but potentially a medical emergency.
You may find that the doctor hasn't given a laxative as such (ie not something to cause the bowel to contract) but just a stool softener like lactulose to make it easier for baby to go naturally. We occasionally give this to our baby who is older than your grandson and it works very quickly and is very gentle and non habit forming.0
