lmao, i had to go away and have a coffee before replying to the "don't have overheads" thing!

£1000 is a good price, if I met your husband it would be at least 3 times the price, entirely based on that attitude.

Like other posters have mentioned, it's a good price, he's not going to do it is he?! One thing is just make sure you have good reports about any tradesmen you employ, as not all work to the same, ummm, standard.

    ;)

All advice given by thekid is in good faith but remember these important facts:
    1. I'm lucky enough to live in Scotland(Scots Law may apply)...
    2. My motto is "What's the worst that can happen" you've seen the kids in the Comic Relief clips, is it to that scale? Then get a grip!
    3. It's only money...no really(see #2)
    4. I'm only a plumber...

  • i am sorry if hubbys comment offended people :o - its just that as an engineer he has rent rates gas electric - tools and machines cost him £50000 and not £500 a time yet he doesnt charge his customers half of what some plumbers charge. They use our electric and their overheads are not in the same league as running a factory. Anyway - thanks for the comments!!lol ;) he knows he is in the wrong game!

Anyway - cut a long story short - a builder friend will now be helping hubby refit the actual bathroom over weekends - so my dream of a quick bathroom are out of the window

at least it will be to hubbys spec and he cant moan then!! having had a few quotes from other plumbers this week (who thing they are god or something and tuts at everything and rolls eyes) i am totally conviced that hubby and m8 will do a great job. His m8 has 2 bathrooms to die for in his house but the downside is i have got to wait a few months for him to be free.

Thanks for the advice and sorry again if comments upset people - but it is just one opinion of plumbers!!

    thanks again

If he has high overheads he should charge more to cover them. Just because a person is only an engineer doesn't mean they can't at least try at business.

It's not all plumbers who charge extorsionate(sp?) rates, in fact I seldom make any profit at all from jobs. If I have enough to live on then I'm happy. Some plumbers who think they are godd or something might be better phrased some people who think they are god or something.

I'm glad you are getting it sorted out though, it's good he has a mate in the trade too, you will have a beautiful bathroom at a fraction of the cost, RESULT!

    :)

He was chatting to me and mentioned he was a Engineer and worked to 1000th of an inch, i told him thats no good, my work has to be Spot-On:D

    1. That'll be why we never need to use PTFE, jointing compound, solder etc. then :D

    2. They might work to 1000th of an inch, but it would be nice if some of their drawings had the same dimensions on them.
