Not MSE - Parachute training courses?

Options
Are there an ex Paras/squaddies that can settle a long running disagreement?

Completing a Parachute training course at Browndown does't entitle you to 'wings' or am I wrong?

Thank you.
One life.

You can do parachuting as part of AT, that does not entitle you to your wings. Not sure where this is carried out though.

Thanks thats all I needed to know. I was pretty sure that you had to be a Para to wear your wings (or have them tattooed on your arm!)

Not necessarily, I'm not in the Army so not sure how it works with their regiments outwith the Para's, but Royal Marines can get their wings and their not Para's.

I thought you needed to have passed 'P' company to get wings (irrespective of cap-badge). I know some attached personnel can have cherry beret, but are wingless...
  • as RM if you are Qual'ed and badged you can become a back door bandit and just do a jumps course, this will give you wings, they think being a bootie is harder than doing P Coy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

notatvstar; P Coy doesn't give you wings, that's the jumps course. P Coy gives you the beret, although as you've mentioned support staff etc can wear it too.. I wouldn't want to wear the Maroon lid by just being attached staff :E
All Officers and soldiers who wish to serve with Airborne Forces must attend PPS with P Coy.
The P Coy mission is to test the physical fitness, determination and mental robustness, under conditions of stress, to determine whether an individual has the self discipline and motivation required for service with Airborne Forces.
PPS is both physically and mentally demanding. Candidates can expect to be pushed to their limits and beyond. The prize, for those who are successful, is the award of the coveted maroon beret and the opportunity to go on to conduct the Basic Parachute Course at RAF Brize Norton.

  • So you have a walt in your midst? It's a bit like people doing FPGRM for 6 months and then keeping the badge on their CS95s.

So basically a handbag doing a jump course with no insignia can't suddenly sprout wings . .

  • ... just grilled the OH. You can wear the cherry berry without doing P company, depends on unit traditions - he mentioned a few but then I kind of phased him out - I think he may still be telling me stuff about the RHA, but I'm not listening now. I know this to be true as I've gone on ex with females with the non-tactical lid, and, as far as I am aware no female has passed P company - well they weren't female at the time...

You need to pass P company and also do the jumps to get wings. Other than that you're a penguin.

    ... or something.

Why is the OP asking this? Is he 3 para mortars?*

*... if you don't know the joke then please don't post a correction.
