Right, I'm lying then am I?!

Raachel what area is this ?

I know for a fact DWP do not fund HGV training for people on JSA due to the huge costs.A friend who had been on the dole for 9 months asked them for £30 towards a digital tacho card and they refused.

HGV is on the Vocational training list which is available to certain JSA customers but you have to be in criteria groups.

I was asked if i was interested in a FLT licence when at the JC as i could apply for jobs that require 1.

Found the sheet the next step advisor gave me, theres Forklift truck licence and counter balance and reach from learn direct and other courses like health and social care. Another provider also provide Forklift training. No mention of HGV though.

Ask to see a next step advisor and see what they say.

Sorry but load of crap. There is no funding now from the DWP especially for HGV courses over 1k a time.

not true - can be done within the Driving Goods Vehicles Apprenticeship and potentially within the Sector Based Work Academy (formerly known as PreEmployment Training). Funding doesnt come from the DWP, it is from the provider's (College) Single ADult Skills budget of which a proportion should be used for these types of training schemes.

Also there is not a shortage of HGV drivers but a huge amount who are signing-on.

Direct quote from Operations Manager at the company I mentioned above..."we are crying out for LGV & HGV Drivers, that is why we have to employ Eastern European and Agency drivers".

  • As per my previous answer on the Sector Based Work Academy for Logistics, there are similar schemes for tht Security/Events Industry and SIA is included within this, again contact local JCP and FE Colleges.
