    Oh. My. God. Totally overlooks the fact that the gap between the read/write head is in microns, as in a hell of a lot less than the width of a human hair, that even the slightest contact between the head and disc will trash the data, that even a single bit of dust can wreck the job and that as the data is stored magnetically on the platter the slightest bit of electrostatic on your person will wipe the data.

    Thats why companies that do do this have completely dust free rooms they do it in and charge £100's.

    Best thing to do is goto a small local PC shop who can help you out with retrieving data. I had this problem before and a local man told me it was knackered but he took it apart for £40 and recovered everything.

    I doubt he took it apart. If he did and you didn't lose any data you are extremely lucky and can you give me Saturdays lottery numbers please?
