I am just about to chuck my pc out of the window. It is driving me mad.
Has been really painfully slow for weeks and unresponsive.
Programmes take ages to open, and then won't minimize or end without starting task manager and I often get windows opening up within other windows and then freezing.
I have ran a full scan through microsoft security essentials and have also run c cleaner and an ad aware scan. Also done a scan with malwarebytes (nothing showing up )
I have got lots of free space on the hard drive and am at a loss to what is wrong.

My mate had the same issue recently.
Sometimes they just get to the point where you need to back up and reinstall windows.
I done this to my mates and it's like lightening now..Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
Have a look in device manager/performance and see what is using cpu and memory.
Process explorer is usefull for showing what is using resources - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653
Can you think of any changes to cause slowness ?0 -
Look at the sticky thread above
adaware won't help speed

How much RAM do you have and what OS XP/Vista/7?
I upgraded my RAM from .5 to 2.5GB and followed "Closed" advice and runs very quickly now on XP. I found I was running over my RAM which was creating the log jam."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Follow Closed' sticky on how to speed up a slow or infected PC above and you will see an improvement.
Don't forget to post the commit charge and the hijack this log

My sons computer was slow and I opened his computer to find the whole computer covered in dust and the heat sink that attached to the CPU was covered and blocked with dust.
Once I blew it out with the compressor it ran fine again so just check to make sure it isn't the sameI'm not poor i'm just skint0 -
mine's driving me nuts too the last 2 months, and led me to order a refurbished dell computer a few days ago.
but have heard of the heating issue causing problems, my cousins laptop was causing loads of probs but someone advised him a cooling stand and it works better than before now (he also got the insides cleaned at pcworld techguys, although he still bought a new laptop as the prev one was v old.
Others suggested reloading windows to me as well, but have never done it before and my computer didnt come with a disc as far as i remember, so not sure how i am supposed to do this, or probably buy a windows 7 if available cheaply and try that as many say it needs less resources than the crap vista that i have on my laptop. vista takes for ever to start and shut down and keeps hanging, system ram was 3gb and i got it changed to 4gb but now realise it might have been futile as i read 32bit systems cant use more than 3gb ram, i dont know if its true but looks like i was given wrong advice at pcworld techguys when i enquired about increasing ram to 4gb from 3gb on my old laptop. If i manage to salvage this old laptop then might give it to my mom who uses computers occassionally.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
If it didn't have a disc, it will either have the means to create one, or a factory restore partition - see the manual
or follow the other advice above and post a hijackthis log in a new thread
Cooling stands are a waste of money!!
