What Ipad2 would you recommend ?

Hi,
I want to get my husband an Ipad2 for Christmas but there is a few different kinds of them so I dont know what to get. I am not the best on these things at the moment I want to throw my Blackberry out the window ! What one would you recommend to get ,Leather or plastic cover ? Also do you think it will be sold out around Dec time or should I just buy it now while its in stock.

There are 3 versions of each type:

    16GB wifi,32GB wifi and 64GB wifi.

    16GB wifi and 3G
    , 32GB wifi and 3G,64GB wifi and 3G
    .

I have an ipod touch 32gb and it's almost full up, SO I'd say go for a 32gb or 64gb model as the 16gb would soon fill up with apps, music, videos, films, photos etc.

A great deal of people use WIFI on their home internet connection.

There are numerous ways to surf out of the home via Public Wifi (FREE or PAID) @ places including coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and libraries. (but security can be an issue)

If you get a 3G version, you can put a sim in it and either pay-as-you-go or pay monthly.
Not really an excellent idea for general surfing as data is expensive BUT guess for checking emails etc might be ok.

Availability?? BUT if you buy too early you are eating into your guarantee period.
  • You need to think about what he will use it for. When will it need to be on the internet? Some people would answer "all the time" because they want to use it for surfing the web. For me, the answer is "now and then", because I'm typing this on a computer, and I just use the Ipad for checking Email and a few web sites when I'm on the move, and can't be bothered to boot up the laptop. If you are near WiFi when you want to be on the web (at home, Starbucks, mcDonalds,...) then the WiFi version will do. If you want to be able to surf or Email anywhere, or on the go, then you need the 3G version, but be prepared to keep spending as the monthly costs are not cheap. Using it on WiFi is free at home and in a lot of locations.
Now on to the memory size. For many people, the basic 16Gb version is enough. You can store all your Email, loads of apps, books, some music, and photos, and you will not run out of space. If you want to carry hours of video, or if you have massive music or photo collections, then you should consider the larger memory. I have the 32Gb model, and I have hours and hours of TV and movies which I carry around (to watch on aeroplanes), plus 100 apps and some music and magazines.
I love my Ipad. It works really well, and keeps me occupied when I'm traveling. I don't think it replaces a laptop if you've got serious work to do though.

I've got the 64GB wifi one. I have used over 32GB of storage already, and that is without any films/TV, just a lot of apps.

Most places have wifi like previous posters have said. Does your husband have a smartphone? If not I suppose a 3G iPad might be useful.

I prefer the feel of the plastic cover to the leather one.

Buy it as late as possible. And when you are about to buy it, check that a new version isn't expected soon: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/ they are usually fairly accurate.

Id say go for a 32GB 3G version to be honest, thats what i have with my iPad 1 and to be honest it was the best and most practical choice.

Buy whatever you can afford. If that's the 64GB 3G version then get that.

haha, lots of them are from last year, lots of long train journeys and staying in B&Bs etc for work, so lots of time to kill!

Some of them I have never even opened though, I quite often check what is free or on sale (Touch Arcade and App Advice have regular features on app sales, and TA also has a forum dedicated to sales and free apps) and download any I think I might be interested in in future.

P.S. I have another 22GB of app on my iPhone, some are duplicated on both iPhone and iPad but most are not!
