Do I qualify for LHB?

What else can I do?
I'm going to the council offices tomorrow to find out if I would qualify for HB. Do you think they'll be able to tell me there and then? I expect I'll need an appointment. It's so difficult to do these things when you have to drag the kids with you *sigh*0 -
I dont think it will be there and then. They will need to look into your background etc and if you have just come over here to claim benefits etc. And the fact you own another house.
You make it sound like such an effort to try find a home for yourself and your children??? "drag the kids along" Do you expect to come back to the uk and get everything handed to you on a plate without making any effort at all?0 -
Of course I don't!! But trying to arrange/attend appointments of any kind are a nightmare when you have two young children with you.
I had to take them to the job centre last week and that was a disaster.0 -

I can only imagine the OP is slightly exasperated with the situation and finding it difficult to get on her feet... but its not really an easy thing to try and attend appointments with kids etc.. wee bit of compassion wouldn't go a miss maybe...0 -
It can be difficult taking young children with you to appointments, but you can make it easier for yourself. Take a bag with some books, colouring books and pens, carton of juice and packets of raisins - this will keep the children occupied for a short while, so at least you can try to get something sorted without too much disturbance. Depending on the age of the children, you could also take an MP3 player or personal CD player if you have one. While you are waiting to be seen, play hangman, I spy, the Minister's cat, and similar games - then open the bag when you sit down to speak to an advisor.
I have three children, one disabled. My son has many appointments and we can spend hours waiting to see specialists. I always have a small bag of things to do, so that he doesn't get bored or fractious.0
