BT Contract end date

I've just been trying to find out when our line rental contract with BT ends and I found the following page on BTs site.

http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10757/c/345,361,1083

I've followed the link but I cant see anywhere that says when my contract is due to end, is this the same for everyone else? All I can do on that page is sign up to a new contract!

Am I going to have to phone them to see when my contract ends?

I heard (but don't quote me as I may be totally wrong) BT contracts automatically renew 12 months after the service commences. Unless you give one clear months notice to terminate that particular call plan. At which point you revert to a basic phone line & call charges.

Before you ring be sure to arm yourself with a large tea or coffee & some biscuits. Then prepare to be shunted all over the place once you actually get a real person to talk to. Sorry but my experience of BT is not good and I dread having to ring them at work.

Yup, that's true. that's why I'm so keen to get my renewal date so I can cancel the contract in good time. The least amount of money that I give BT the easier I'll sleep at night.
  • BT are merely following the Readers Digest policy..we will take your money until you tell us to stop ! That has been going on for years !

With the exception of the Unlimited Evening & Weekend calls plan (to which you have to specifically agree in order to get the monthly charge waived), BT contracts do not auto-renew. Month-by-month services (i.e. 30 days notice) follow the initial contract period.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thanks for the link. I was wondering how I could find out online when my BT contract was up. It shows clearly that it is up on the 6th November! :j

Glad to be of help but where did it tell you how long your contract has left? All it told me was what plan I'm on.

As soon as I entered my phone number and postcode I had to tick a box to verify that I was the account holder. Then the website brought up a message stating my current calling plan and directly underneath it stated when my contract started and finishes.

    HTH!

Thank you, all it told me was what calling plan I was on. I had to ring them now to find out when my contract finsihes, 4th of October, bye bye BT!

I was told I had to give two weeks notice, can anyone confirm that this is correct?

NOBODYS contract 'finishes'. There is never a finite date when you suddenly lose dial tone. You mistake contract end with the completion on any agreed minimum term. You need to ask when your minimum term is reached. This is because reaching one does not mean the conclusion of the other.

Given that BT themselves call it a contract end date on the link I posted in my opening post, I won't be rushing to edit my title.

Besides, BT don't have minimum terms in my opinion, it's a fixed term of 12 months and if you don't tell them you're leaving you enter another fixed term. It's not like plusnet for example where I've had to stay for 12 months but I'm then free to move whenever I want. That's what I'd call a minimum term.
