broadband excess usage!

Options
Hi all, I hope you can help.
We get our broadband through plusnet and pay 12.99 a month for 10gb.We never go over this limit,or should I say we havent since we started with them in January this year.Until this month.

We got an email saying that theyve added 5gb to our usage allowance for £5 as we have exceeded our usage for this month.
I have looked at the breakdown and it is all web and streaming usage.web usage is excessive on the bill, however we havent been on it any more than usual.one day there was 512mb!

We joined facebook a couple months ago and hubby goes on farmville a lot...is this classed as streaming?
He was on world of warcraft for hours a day previously but this never took us over the limit...why not when farmville does?

I guess we are just trying to understand why all of a sudden our usage has shot up!we are now paying £17.99 this month, which I am unimpressed with!

any advice appreciated.thanks.

One thing that chewed a lot of bandwidth on my 3G one day was a web page with a self starting embedded video. I amuse myself with a few newsletters which have links to web articles. I open those that look interesting in new tabs then delete the newsletter and look at the tabs later. Yours may be nothing like that but you'd need to open a lot of "normal" web pages to eat 512MB and streamed video is the prime suspect.

Farmville uses more bandwidth than video streaming so be careful with those programs. Install a metering program on your computer I use TBBMeter.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • Plusnet let you set the amount extra you pay for in:-

Home > Member Centre > Connection Settings > Control Your Broadband > Manage my usage

Once this billing month is complete set this maximum spend to £0

You can see what you have used day by day on
