Second (loaded?) SIM card given with PAYG mobile

Bought a mobile yesterday. It came with £10 call credit and a SIM card. Got home and inside the box was another SIM card!

Now, I know this is a bit cheeky, but should that second SIM work, or does it somehow need to be activated?

that means the sim wont work, and its now a useless lump of plastic

Oh well, it was worth a try. The other one works fine, and courtesy of this site I've unlocked the phone too!

Both cards are T-Mobile.
