Homemade yoghurt blunder!

Options
I have just had a go at making some homemade yoghurt using uht milk, Marvel and yoghurt but I think I have made a booboo.:o

The yoghurt I added was the Lite Greek Style from Tesco, will this be ok?

I have just read that the starter should contain live cultures and I don't know if this yoghurt contains live cultures as I have thrown the tub away.

I must admit i`ve been a bit careless checking these thing myself but i`ve not had a bad result yet so i must have just been lucky.

Just cross your fingers and wait and see, good luck!

    A total bl**dy disaster! :o

The top third was liquid, the bottom two thirds a curdled mess.

At least it smelled like greek yoghurt!

I will def have to look for some live cultured yoghurt the next time I go into Tesco.

By the way, a question for the experts out there.

Do you have to warm up the milk if you are using UHT milk?

    Ta.

Oh no! Better luck next time...

I used to not warm up the milk if using UHT and had no problems, but had a problem last year with some of my batches going stringy (happens when fresh milk isn't warmed up), so have gone back to warming on the UHT as well to be sure. I think it might have been a change in UHT as well.... never had any trouble when I was using Sainsbury's store brand UHT but had the stringy problem every time with Morrison's.

Did/do you use organic bio starter yoghurt or normal?

    Ta.

If you're using a heated incubator then no, it will heat it up to the right temperature.

If you're using a wide-necked flask then yes.
