Get compensation / complain

My partner went to Focus DIY this morning, unfortunatley as he bent down to pick up a bag of sand he cut his forhead just above his eyebrow on a metal pallet retainer that was stuck out at an angle.

He informed a member of staff and filled in an accident form.

Its only a scratch but it did bleed a bit, I just wondered if there would be any point in complaining about this, would we recieve anything, is it worth a try?
Regards

Mark

I tore a sleeve in a DIY store on a plastic leaflet holder sticking out (it was empty so I didn't see it).

I asked for some first aid.

I was only waering something old but they offered me £20 for clothing as the manager recognised that I wasn't trying to exagerrate.

It depends on what you are trying to get.

My guess is that if you write a good letter and don't sound like your taking the mickey then you might get something as a good will gesture.

If you wade in asking for £££s then you will probably hit a brick wall and be reffered to their solicitors because
    1) they will recognise you are taking the mickey
    2) they will have to deal with it legally anyway

You could try writing a letter saying that you are concerned about the safety of staff and customers.

I don't think you are likely to get very much for a small cut.
The money I got was mainly for my clothing that was torn.

I got a wad from M&S. I bought a childs navy and red sleep suit. When I washed it at 40 degrees (the label said 50 degrees) it ran badly. Not only did the navy half run into the red half it also ruined 3 of my husbands shirts, 2 t-shirts and numerous pair of pants. I took the offending item back into M&S along with the ruined shirts and t-shirts (I wouldn't inflict the pants on them). 1 of the shirts was an M&S which had retailed for £35 so they give that for each of the 3 shirts plus £10 each for the t-shirt and £25 for undies. Of course they also refunded the cost of the sleepsuit. ;D

I think you should speak to the store manager but i think you will only probably get about £50 in vouchers or something.

The examples here are for actually damage that you can put a monetary value on, i dont think they will do that for your hubbys head without solicitors involved etc...

But I wouldnt mind £50 of vouchers though ;)
  • I wouldn't have expected to get a massive amount, it was only a small cut, but I think it would be reasonable of them to offer a small amount as an apology
