Does anyone know Asda's policy on tattoo's?

Well given that I was one in a group of 10, that were selected from a group of 40 that were at the assessment day, I was the only one that had a facial piercing (although my tattoos were covered), one guy that was also selected that day, has tattoos on his arms, and he from what I can remember didn't have them covered.
Most of the people had the same amount of experience as me, some even more so.
For every employer that doesn't mind, you will find 10 that though (sorry, not sure on actual stats).
And when applying for jobs where your showing yourself to already have a high level of qualifications/expertise it's usually a safe assumption your not that of the stereotype.
Don't get me wrong, I actually don't mind tattoos. Lower back, shoulder, leg for example are quite sexy places -- they are also practical. But tattoos on both hands or in some cases on the face or top end of the neck just aren't practical and don't look professional or thoughtful infact.
In the past i've had people ask me if I have some PT work and the first thing I have noticed is a snake all the way down the arm (or some very visual place)... it's distracting to say the least.0 -

What a load of rubbish!! That's like saying anyone with a uni degree doesn't have a tattoo!0 -
To all of you narrow minded people on here that believe that tattooed and pierced people aren't eligible for jobs because of the way they look, I signed up to this forum to post this ONE message to prove you wrong! I am heavily pierced & tattooed; have a full sleeve, my knuckles tattooed, my chest, my palm, my neck etc all visible to the public, I also have 7 facial piercings and 2 oral piercings, including 20 on 1 ear with 1 8mm stretch and 1 20mm stretch, I also have 5 on my other ear! And these are only the ones that people can see!!!
I'm rather intelligent with good qualifications, and a vast amount of experience behind me considering my age!
I do understand it is a bit more difficult for modified and alternative people to get jobs, but that's something I took on board when I started getting my modifications, and its something that will always stick in the back of your mind! On the other hand though I stayed in full time education until I was 18 although I've never been out of work since I was 15!!!!
This year in March I was thrilled to have been given a job in One of Wales' BIGGEST tourist attractions!! I was a catering assistant and then got trained to work in retail and in the ticket office! My modifications and brightly coloured hair did not effect this in ANY WAY!!! By April of this year I was made RETAIL SUPERVISOR which is a rather big role! And yet again my appearance didn't effect this at all as it did not effect my work, my customer skills, the hours I put in, the staff I supervised etc, and saying that it hasn't effected any of the other jobs I've done such as
Receptionist
Bar & waitressing staff
TV & Radio work for the BBC
And caring for an elderly lady.
So think what you wish about tattooed and pierced people because you are all wrong and I believe I'm a prime example! Employers are seeing beyond looks as good hard working staff is hard to come by!
Ill be thinking of all of you when I open up my business soon! When ill be successfully and see how thrilled people are to see a modified person doing well for them selfs and becoming a success rather than let people melicious slander bring them down!!

Thank you. It's nothing offensive, it's my childrens names
I've often wondered....is that in case you forget what you called them?
Seriously, though, although Jarndyce's post was intentionally inflammatory, people really should consider the consequences of having tattoos in places that will be difficult to hide. You never know when regret might creep in.dickydonkin wrote: »I think that comment only compounds the stereotypical view of people who shop at Waitrose - or indeed the stereotypical views of people who have tattoos
I disagree. There is a marked difference between both the staff and customers who shop and work in Waitrose and one of the big four supermarkets. I NEVER get the level of service in one of the big four that I get in Waitrose - and generally there is not a tattoo in sight. Coincidence?I was at a music festival a few weeks ago and one of the policemen had a visible tattoo. One of those shoulder to wrist designs. We had to ask him how he got away with displaying it. His answer was that he had the tattoo prior to joining, it had no criminal, gang, sexual, religious, football or otherwise connotations and was only visible during nice summer weather. His employer had no issue and had implied that in certain circumstances it made him a useful asset.
Hmmmmm.......that is about to change0 -

Many people may suggest your last quote defies logig based on the physical description of yourself in your first paragraph.
Nonetheless - each to their own, but why this thread has been dredged up from over a year ago seems pointless as I suspect the OP knows one way or the other in respect of Asda's policy.I disagree. So no generalisation there then! Are you suggesting that people with body piercings and tattoos are incapable of providing good service? Fellow posters may perceive your comments as snobbish - I prefer to keep my own counsel on that one!0 -
A little relevant - if you ever apply to a Tesco - I know two of the guys on the meat counter in my local one have really cool tattoos on their arms.
I think one of them actually has a full sleeve, so if the sleeve rides up it's definitely visible.0 -
