Thanks for all your help. I have looked at greyhound service and this appears best option at the minute, 30hrs but at least we get there.

I looked for flights but everything appears booked, our flight with delta was due to leave at 6am tomorrow.

Once they cancelled they don't re-open cancelled tickets do they?

Lady S - where did you find these flights? Delta will reschedule me no extra charge, but i can never find anything free.

They don't normally just cancel, you're out of luck...they would normally cancel and then get you on the next available flight - though in this case the flight may be too late for your intended connection.

Agree with Kira000 that if these were booked separately, it's probably down to you to sort something out...if they had been booked on one ticket, then at least the airlines would have to get you from your US departure destination to your arrival destination - though given the circumstances it may not be to your liking in terms of timing.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
  • We going to stay In Miami for another night, and get a flight to New york Tuesday, a couple of connections and will take about 13hrs, but get to New York 9hrs before our Flight.

Just wondered, is this something insurance would cover? this flight will cost more than the original cost?

ill check all details when I get home, but just wondered.
  • I was in exactly the same position last year when a Delta connecting flight in Atlanta was cancelled to Manchester. I remember the frustration well!!!!

I would suggest that you talk to other passengers in the same position and find out what advice they are receiving. From doing this we found out that some passengers were being placed on other flights but others weren't. If you know about passengers being placed on flights you are in a stronger position when speaking to the customer help help desk.

Don't be put off by the customer help desk when they tell you that there are no flights for a couple of days.

Finally, most importantly and this is the way we got home - we stood at check out desk for the last flight out of Atlanta to the UK (Heathrow, not Manchester as we wanted but we didn't care!) and stood in front of the flight staff who were checking passengers onto the flight. We made sure we were there and wanted 2 seats on the flight. By making ourselves known and VISIBLE we managed to get the LAST 2 seats on the plane (not together but again who cares!)

Once we got to Heathrow, by speaking to passengers in a similar position we found that some passengers had been given free transfers to Manchester. Armed with this information we went to the Delta help desk and also managed to get free connections to Manchester.

    Good luck

Good info thank you, i will see about this.

I've managed to find flights (3 connections) to new york tomorrow night, but this has cost me about $500 more, is this something insurance or delta would compensate for?
