HELP: Stuck in Miami - Flight Cancelled to JFK

Hi,
Can someone help and advise me on what to do.
We are currently in Miami, and had a flight booked with Delta to take us to JFK tomorrow morning. They cancelled this flight.
We are due to fly with Aer Lingus from JFK to England on Wednesday afternoon. But have no means to get there now. All flights delta had to JFK this week have sold out, Spoke with Aer Lingus and they advise they only fly to certain airports, Orlando been one of them (we flew here originally) but they have no flights till Friday, which is no good. I've been here 3 weeks as it is, plus thats more expense etc. she was looking at something else but lost connection.
I'm not sure where I stand and who needs to fix this, or am I pretty much on my own with this? Does Aer lingus have to under these circumstances sort something out, or does delta as they quickly cancelled the flight, although I'm sure flights will be back on tomorrow.
Please help
Thanks
Simon

I was listening to chat about this on television this morning and the news is not that good - It seems that anyone who had a flight back from USA on an European carrier has to be looked after for accom and meals by the carrier - under European regs but anyone on a flight cancelled by an American company is very much on their own as the USA do not have similar regs.
You need to find a way to get to JFK for your flight on Weds - even if it means spending 48 hrs on greyhound buses travelling north - or getting flights to somewhere nearer NYC and then getting to the airport. The hurricane has now been downgraded and normal services should resume pretty quickly but you will have to go to the back of the queue to be sorted by Delta so I would just get it sorted for yourself if I were you.John0 -
What have Delta said about getting you on another flight? I know you say that all Delta flights have now sold out - but have they offered an alternative? There are other airlines and other NY airports which may be an option (though may be limited or no availability).
You don't say whether this was all booked on one ticket, or if the Miami to JFK was booked separately...but even if you did book on one ticket, there's a chance that due to the circumstances you will be stuck for awhile as there will be a lot of displaced passengers needing to get on alternate flights and only so many seats available.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Delta have basically said I wasn't as pro-active about it and should have re-scheduled before.
So they have nothing untill end of week.
The flight between miami and jfk was booked separately, all trains seem to be booked, no flights anywhere near. Keep getting cut off from aer lingus.

Have you tried Greyhound bus service? Otherwise I guess its a flight direct from Miami to UK at your own expense? Maybe head to Orlando and try and get a seat on a charter?John0 -
If you rent a car and leave right now it's a long drive to nyc but you should be able to make it by weds afternoon0

US Airways have available flights for Tomorrow, and Delta are showing some bookable flights for 8am tomorrow, although it does involve a change.0

Keep an eye on this - if the storm has passed nyc today it may be that the flights will start again tomorrow ?John0

There are Greyhounds available aswell leaving tomorrow evening getting to NYC in the early hours wednesday. Although this is $309 dollars.
If you can get yourself to Washington the Megabus to NYC is only $190 -
In answer to another part of your question on responsibility, if the aer lingus flight was booked separately, and is operating as planned, then they have no obligations to help you get home if you dont show up for your flight. It is Delta's responsibility to get you to New York (at some point), but as the booking is a separate ticket, then they have no responsbility for your onward journey to the Uk if you miss your connection in NYC due to their cancellation..
I think the ideas above are the best: investigate train, greyhound bus or as last resort, hire car. You MAY be able to claim something back from your travel insurance, so keep your receipts, but dont get your hopes up.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Have you tried Amtrak? The direct services are Silver Star and Silver Meteor. I've had a look on line and they appear to be sold out but you may be able to get an alternative route or cancellation if you speak to them direct.0
