My Mum used to have that book, we used to laugh because I am sure one the editors is Neil Tennant, he of "pet shop boys" fame, he used to edit books before his music carear took off! So make sure you keep it! you never know, one day it might be worth a few bob!
    Sig ah Sig Ahhh
  • Yeah thats the one!! I didn't spot that!! He is the general editor.
I'm definitley going to keep it as it does say first edition in there and I make sure all firsts are kept!

I salvaged this from oHs mums bag of stuff to go to the charity shop- well chuffed! she ewas also getting rid of margurite pattens 1000 fave recipes, which i also salvaged.

I was more chuffed with these than most of my Xmas presents. How OS is this, apparently they belonged to OHs gran, passed to me from MIL, and maybe Ill have them long enough to pass down to my grandkids
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

My Dad is a milkman and every year there is a Dairy cookbook or Dairy Diary etc. I know he used to get them every year, when I was a child, I used to spend hours looking at the cookbooks as a teenager........I wonder if my Mum and Dad have that book tucked away somewhere. Think I might send my Mum an email!

I got the new Dairy cookbook for Christmas and it is good. All 'homemade' type recipes from different regions of the UK. I'm planning on trying the Birmingham Bacon cake first which is a big bacon and cheese filled scone! Then there is a recipe that looks a bit like curd tart, but has ground rice. That is second on the list!

can get it on Amazon for 2.76....1p for book, 2.75 for postage
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

  • Panic over!! Just back from rummaging through the bookshelf! Have found my copy, which is also a first edition and edited by Neil Tennant! (I have not noticed that before). I thought I may have sent it to the charity shop when we had the kitchen renovated.

A prospective Mother in Law bought this for me when I was 18. I wasn't impressed at the time, but I realise its worth now. It has been very useful over the years and has outlasted the boyfriend by about 20 years!!

Just had a rummage for my copy and was disappointed to not find Neil Tennant as Ed. Then I checked the date 1969 I can beat you lot by nearly 20yrs !!! It even tells you about new money, weights and measures (decimalissation to you and me)

I also have the Dairy Book of Home Cookery form 1968. It is my bible. The recipes are sensible and economical. It is so well used I had it re-bound about 15 years ago.

Don't know what the market value of them is but to me they are priceless!
