Internet connection advice please (Wildfire S)

Options
So.... I just got this phone on Tuesday and wondering why I am unable to get the internet at home on it, connects beautifully when out and about in the nearest city etc. and where there is definitely 3G. I thought though that I would be able to get on the internet on my phone at home as we have wireless broadband - or am I wrong?!!! We are 'out in the sticks' and understand that we have no 3G and very limited 2G connection.

I went into the Orange shop today and queried about this. At first they thought it was something they hadn't done 'their end' but then thought that it was something to do about us being in the sticks as it were and just told me to ring 150 Customer Services and didn't want to check my phone or anything.

It's not life or death that I have phone internet at home (although of course it would be very nice!), I'm just confused that my son can get it on this iPod touch, but I can't??? Hmmmmm!!!

We connected my phone to our hub etc and on my phone it's saying connected - I'm confused!!! Any help would be appreciated! Thank you. :)

Well rural mobile connections are bad at most times, Trying to get mobile broadband working rural is crazy.

As to your wireless broadband, if your phone can pick up wireless then you should have no problems connecting to your routers wifi.

orange normaly advise you on the signal you will get before you even order.

My understanding is that the phone can connect to the router, but can't connect to the internet through the router.
  • The answer to this can be found by comparing what the iPod Touch does and the phone.

Firstly try and see the router on the iPod Touch

This will require an address like 192.168.1.1 (but Google for the address for your router or it may be in the Router instructions).

On the iPod touch you will see a router log in page hopefully.

Do the same on the phone and what do you see ?

If it is the same as the iPod touch you have a working connection to your broadband. If not I suggest you delete the network from your phone and set it up again.

If that hasn't worked I would download "Wifi Analyzer" from the Android market and compare the settings you see for your network with those on the iPod touch.

The IP address will be different but others (Gateway and DNS may be different but should be the same). If they are different it probably reveals the problem.

I don't have a phone with the same version of Android as yours so if you still have a problem post again and others may be able to help.
