they will charge you the remaining 5 months of your line rental, so if you do it downgrade to the cheapest tariff first0

this is true. you can lower your tariff to the lowest tariff (i think its £25 per month) after 6 months unless the policy has changed. if you dont do this it may cost you a fortune. if you were looking at a different offer then you could see whether any companies will pay off the remaining amount f your contract. but you have to do your research first b4 you do that0 -
So prehaps it's worth changing my number instead with o2. will they do this for anyone who wish's to change for no reason. or only specific reason's will they do this, and how much would they charge.
Basically I need to cancel my current number and have a new one.0 -

they may ask for money for doing this. my friend did the same but on orange and he got charged £15. his reason for this was because he was getting thretening phone calls. they changed his number straight away.0 -
You can request a new number.
If you cancel, you will be charged 5 months line rental. Downgrade to the cheapest tariff available if you want to do this.
Soon, you wont be able to downgrade til much later in your contract, and then you will only be able to downgrade "1 tariff level" per month....0 -
If its just a new number you want, you can do that for free.
Just get a free/cheap pay as you go sim, can be any network but you can get them from o2 below.
http://www.o2.co.uk/nus
Get the PAC code from the prepay customer services and give that to o2 contract (your current billing company). In 5 working days, you will have a new o2 number, free of charge
I think the cheapest normal tariff is £20. They used to do a data only tariff for about £8 + vat, which would reduce your final bill, if you can switch before you cancel. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

policy may have changed but last time i checked you only have 14 days to port into o2.
haven't looked into it for a while so don't quote me!It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

If you want to change your number they will do it for free the first time, jst say you are getting hassling phone calls etc..

With O2 you can port in your number at any time during contract.
(not with CPW O2)
If they dont change it you can still get a FREE payg sim card here and then port your number http://freesim.o2.co.uk/messages.php
You will have to top up £10 to activate before getting PAC.
Or you can get a T-Mob free sim here: http://www.t-mobile-campaign.co.uk/sim/
And activate only in £5 then get PAC.
Use this PAC anytime to port in your new number.0
