in Credit cards
Hi Everyone
I am slowly and finally beginning to recover my credit worthiness after many years of not being able to get credit.
My bank have upgraded my account to a current account, I even have an overdraft facility of £100 on it (which I don't use but it's nice to know it's there in an emergency). I currently have a Granite card and a Aqua card both with small credit limits, I spend on each card monthly and pay in full every month to avoid interest. As a result my credit score is slowly improving.
I received an offer to apply for a Capital One Classic card, which has a lower APR than the others, so decided it would be an idea to take that out and cancel one of the other ones. That way if there were to be an occasion where I needed to use the card and couldn't clear it in full the interest would be less.
So I went through the online application it said I had passed all the stages and told me to download the credit card agreement and keep a copy. Also I had to sign the online agreement which it said would enable them to send my card out quicker.
However when I had done everything and signed etc it came up and said I had passed all the online credit checks and they would now carry out some other checks which would take up to 7 working days and then they would decide if they were going to send me a card. Also if they required more information they would write to ask me. It did give me a reference number for my account, which looked like a card number/account number.
Has anyone else had this happen and if so did they go on to receive the card or not. I am confused as to whether I have been accepted or not.
A previous application about 12 months ago was flatly refused on the online credit check stage, so I guess this must be a bit better.
Anyone any idea?
Thanks
Simon

Not sure on how many applicants get an instant approval with Cap1
It does sound as though it has been referred. Which doesn't mean it'll be declined, my partner applied a while back and got the same online answer. He then got a ''Welcome'' letter from them:)0 -
its just their standard fraud check, will be an acceptDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Thanks guys, re the final fraud check, is that not done as part of the credit check they do then? I always thought that part of my credit report held details about fraud? Or have I misunderstood and this is something different?
It is so complicated nowadays with all the checks and everything else.0 -

Simon, I applied with my bank for a loan and he read out a declaration that they would perform a credit and fraud check there and then. I think they check Cifas and there is also something called Hunter which cross checks applications:o Making sure the income you put down is similar etc.
another thing with Capital 1 do you have a partner with a card? You're not on as an additional card holder?
Maybe give then a call with the application reference.
Good Luck, get back and post the outcome:T0 -
No there are no capital one cardholders in our house. Hopefully I will get a letter revealing all in the next few days. I double checked the agreement they said for me to download and it is definately a credit card agreement and has my details on it, just no mention of a limit or anything, so hopefully that is good news.0

I didn't get the same as you, after signing mine it just went to a congratulations screen saying my card would be with me in 7 - 10 days:j
Fingers crossed for you with the further checks they make that you get yours as well Simon;)0 -
Hi Simon
I did mine by phone and passed the application but like you C.O. had to perform some additional checks. They wrote to me requiring ID from list A and B. I sent them in and about 2 weeks later I got my C.O MasterCard!
I think Capital One are getting tighter on applications..
Best of British to you!0 -
I wish they would just tell you when you make the application, this having to wait 7 - 10 days is a real pain, wondering if you are going to get it or not!!!!!0

Great news.........
A letter arrived this morning postmarked Nottingham, which I know is where Capital One are based. I thought oh well maybe in 6 months time, I can try again. Anyway feeling a bit deflated I opened the envelove and surprise surprise it contained a couple of leaflets and a letter with my new pin:j:T:j
It said my new card was on its way under seperate cover, the only thing it didn't give me was what my credit limit is going to be or the APR, which I assume will be the one advertised for the classic card?
So I applied online on Saturday, Monday was a bank holiday and the pin arrives on Wednesday, obviously sent out yesterday. Still don't understand why it didn't just tell me straight away that I'd definately got it? I wonder if it was something to do with applying on a weekend? Who knows?
So in the space of 2 months, I have gone from refusals everywhere to getting my bank account upgraded and getting accepted for credit cards albeit the more expensive ones so I am absolutely delighted. It has been a long 6 years.................0 -
Thats really good news Simon:T
Also means mine should be here soon as well:j0
