Removing fireplace for stove

This is not strictly a heating question, however I'm hope that some of you have had to remove your old fireplaces in order to fit your stove. My question is, I have an 1930 tiled fire place & would hate to have to smash it up to get it out, it is very big. Are there people out there who would come and "reclaim it", would you trust these people?

Thank you.

Difficult one to answer really. I have no doubt that there are people who would like your fireplace. The problem is you can not know if they are cowboys or not unless you can find someone who comes via a recommendation. If your fireplace is All tiled and has no wooden or cast surround then it is going to be very heavy. If it is "sectional" then it will be easier to remove.

A bit more info may help people to advise, good luck.

Give some salvage yards a ring, if they think it will sell they'll remove it so as not to damage it, and give you some dosh into the bargain.
You may click thanks if you found my advice useful
  • They are all tiled, don't know if there sectional or not. I would post a pic but can't figure out how.....I have two of them, really would like them both gone, I have emailed some salvage yards with photos & am awaiting a response.
